Small treat for the week-end: 6244. Mine is a bit different compared to most you might see: it is one from the series which has “brevet +” engraved between the lugs and bears a cross on the crown. In many ways it is the big brother of my Speedking as it is older (1963 vs 1970) and bigger (32mm vs 31mm).

My birthday present arrived. Baltic Aquascaphe

🇫🇷🤿⌚

The same watch, with a classic blue rubber Tropic strap, making it look much more casual.

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

@feijoa beautiful watch. How long is the warranty? Do they do service? I have considered many times whether I should add a Baltic to my collection. But the brand is kind of all over the place. I really like the MR01 and Aquascaphe collections but the Prismic and Bicompax are kind of yikes. Also I struggle sometimes with the “vintage-inspired” stuff because in my head I keep thinking that I might as well go for the “real deal” vintage instead but that’s definitely a me problem 😅

I can justify buying a Milguass (if I had the means)

As a motorsport fan most would think I'd go for a Daytona or as a space enthusiast maybe go for the offerings from ...

But, I am at my core a man of science and Milguass is the one I am attracted to.

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

@mountdiscovery the Milgauss is definitely under appreciated but it is hard to blame people for preferring a safer Explorer in the same price range. For many I suspect that the Milgauss is “just” an Explorer with a funny seconds hand. If you like motorsport and are on a limited budget, maybe an old Speedking would be a good starter to see how you feel about Rolex although they are quite small by today’s standard.

Recent addition to my collection: Two-tone Datejust 36mm reference 16013 with jubilee bracelet. This one has 2 slightly unusual features:

  • it still has its service stickers with reference on the back
  • it has the uncommon Buckley dial and even more uncommon in cream color since most Buckley dials are usually white or blue. The irony is that it likely looks less flashy to regular people but probably stands out more in the eyes of collectors 😅

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

@r_df_ng basically the “standard” dial markers are the baton markers and the roman numerals. The rarer ones are the buckley dial (printed roman numerals), arabic numerals and other variants.

More photos of the Datejust on my wrist since I have been wearing it a lot lately to check that the rotor is working and that the jubilee is tight

The Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Petite Seconde, specifically the platinum variant with an almond-green dial has to be the most beautiful at this year. https://www.watchtime.com/featured/parmigiani-fleurier-brings-back-the-toric-at-watches-and-wonders-2024/

So, is, for the first time, in Geneva at & Wonders. And they try what has been tried several times before, an online configurable watch model. So far, no one really succeeded at this, and I think they will fail, too. Sadly.

My personal highlight so far is the reissued Polo Date. Very nice:

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

@gisiger @r_df_ng agreed. I think they are well past the point where they are missing the target audience. Imo Knot in Japan has the better approach where you keep it very casual with selecting a model and quick release straps, each with their own story/sale pitch. Once you step into modders territory, it’s game over.

@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

Ever since the update to iOS17, I was unable to use my watch due to the sideloaded Pebble app constantly crashing badly. But I recently found out that iMazing could help restore the original IPA which is supposed to be a bit less broken than sideloaded. It seems to be indeed the case. Now I can at least load and manage apps/watchfaces. This is giving me more confidence that I can get back to using regular and transition away from the Watch by using the Pebble time.

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

@HartKnight same. It’s still working last time I checked but I don’t use it anymore as the Time model is kind of better than the OG in every aspect.

Giving my Knot CAP-38 some wrist time today 😊

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

@itsmealexander I think the angle and the zoom are a bit misleading and make it appear bigger than it really is. This one is 38mm. 37mm is usually the sweet spot for my wrist size.
