I finally know what has been putting me off about Michal Burnham in Discovery. It‘s the fake smile she always has, almost like an Apple robot ahme employee

proactiveservices,

@thewk What put me off most was that she's god, and Star Trek is kinda meant to not be about gods.

I gotta say since switching to FOSS finance tool, Actual Budget, I've been really happy with the experience. They've struck a nice balance between minimal, but powerful.

@chris_hayes wow, have you read their privacy policy?
https://actualbudget.org/docs/privacy-policy/

proactiveservices,
@proactiveservices@fosstodon.org avatar

@chris_hayes I also can't find any meaningful hits for "telemetry" or "analytics" in their Github repo. Why does their brief and cromulent privacy policy, and the lack of telemetry seem so rare these days?

proactiveservices,
@proactiveservices@fosstodon.org avatar

@shawnhooper I recently received a copy of my late father's UK air force documents and they sent me into a rabbit hole. I came across the selection process for being a high-speed telegraphist (morse code) back in WWII. Apparently a single mistake during the test meant disqualification.

I am so glad of the backspace key.

proactiveservices,

@defuneste A cargo trailer for a normal bike isn't too expensive. This helps keep n from growing further, since a trailer doesn't count!

proactiveservices,
@proactiveservices@fosstodon.org avatar

@defuneste ahh yes. problem is the extra price will often translate to better products but oof, the price really does ramp up.

Does anyone have a brand (or type) of decaffeinated coffee they would like to share? My wife and I like bold roasts and we're trying to cut down on our caffeine intake. We'd like to still drink a lot of coffee, but not feel jittery.

proactiveservices,
@proactiveservices@fosstodon.org avatar

@brianb If you have some independent cafes nearby, try asking a barista. Make sure you have time for a full-on conversation about it. They may even sell the beans to you :-)

laney, to random
@laney@fosstodon.org avatar

I really despise the prevent internet-culture way of trying to "own" or "zing" in response to any comment. It's the "no, but" of discourse - destroys any change of having a meaningful conversation and tries to divert attention to the "zinger"'s wit rather than what was being said.

Utterly tedious. I simply stop replying when it happens now.

@laney the adage of "don't feed the trolls" if evergreen.

Reminder that buying storage off ebay is like playing the roulette. Advertised as a kingston canvas select micro sd 128GB card. Appears in dmesg as: mmc0:0001 SD16G 80.0 GiB. Using the f3 tool confirms only 80GB usable.
Returning to the scammer for a refund, only for them to scam others with impunity :(

@simon I thought I recognised the ".h2w" file extension and yes, it's inspired from H2testw on Windows. Small world!

    Fix to problems in games with over 65535 cities and units was pushed in today. This will be in 3.1.1. Not many games reach that city/unit count, so the issue had gone unnoticed until Giacomo Mulas encountered and reported it.

    @freeciv This reminds me of a bug I reported in Factorio, but only after I'd travelled the distance that a train could go on 150 solid fuel. RIP phantom minimap trains.
