I just got a private message that I was being Trumpian for using mocking nicknames, that liberals shouldn't resort to demeaning names like I've used.

@GottaLaff I am sorry that it appeared as an attack. You’re doing good work and I didn’t even notice the name you used. You did ask in principle.

But to others, yes, I have seen a group’s deliberattion on leaving bird site be completely derailed when conservatives noted the source detailing problems with site was using potty mouth descriptors for EM. Our friend here is nowhere near this. But yes you gotta go high when they go low.

SCOOP: At a 2019 seminar, Rep. Mike Johnson essentially proposed a religious test for candidates. Only those who held a Biblical worldview & saw the US as a "Christian nation" deserved support. That is, the candidate had to believe the Earth was created 6000 years ago in six days by God.

@DavidCorn what’s fascinating is that even very theologically conservative Christian groups such as Sproul’s Ligonier assert that orthodox Christians have ALWAYS differed on how to read Genesis.

    Paul Krugman announces he's leaving twitter and joining BlueSky. This is the kind of action by big accounts that has a huge effect. It seems like it's part of a wave now, so I don't think he'll be the last to make this kind of announcement in the next few days and weeks.

    NOTE: I quoted a report from an executive of DuckDuckGo attending the antitrust lawsuit against Google. This article has now been retracted from Wired:

    "After careful review of the op-ed, "How Google Alters Search Queries to Get at Your Wallet," and relevant material provided to us following its publication, WIRED editorial leadership has determined that the story does not meet our editorial standards. It has been removed."

    I hope we'll learn more about what Google actually does, since September 28, the court established a process allowing the Justice Department to publish more information about this case.

    @johncarlosbaez yes, the idiotic thing is that we know that the service has to post for itself with ads. So show us ads. But when the results are an ad not related to what you asked for, it’s infuriating. I had cases where I was searching scientific, religious, or historical things and the first 2-3 pages didn’t contain half my search terms. The kid of idiotic raise only an AI could dream up. Interestingly, only on mobile. Desktop is still sane.

    24h later, Threads is at 50m, five times all of Mastodon.

    It took some effort following people but honestly threads is pretty great, at least as far as user experience. Very very very much feels like Twitter used to, in a good way.

    Yes Facebook is evil, Zuck sucks, etc etc. Honestly it's a pretty low bar but just having him not be a right-wing transphobic shitstain is an improvement.

    And the vibe over there is very much "this feels like Twitter when I liked it, Musk is screwed"

    I’m pretty sure Star Trek: Prodigy will find a new home. Just because it wasn’t financially working for Paramount+/Nickelodeon doesn’t mean it won’t work for whoever buys the rights.

    It’s disappointing for viewers that we’re reverting to the old business model of a studio selling a show to a distributor, in a lot of cases, because it means we’re breaking up content availability. Maybe it’ll be more financially sustainable, but most people want their Trek in one place.
