Like who knows really and I would never comment even in DM but there’s some users around here of whom I’m highly suspicious they are who they say they are.
My yearly subscription for my preferred Mastodon client @ivory lapsed the other day, so I gave Ice Cubes another whirl. Nope. There are a few thing it has that I wish were in Ivory but it’s just not as smooth, like there’s a lag to a lot of the actions of a few seconds. No disrespect to the Ice Cubes devs, it’s a good app for the most part but Ivory is so smooth. If I’m not on the website it really is the best way for me to interact with Mastodon.
@ivory Threading of replies in Ice Cubes works better. In Ivory, people’s threaded post show up both in a thread and as replies to the original post and it can be not intuitive to see what is replying to what. Also, links to other posts “quote toots” do display inline.
One thing I wish you did that Ice Cubes doesn’t either is being able to mute or block people right from the main timeline.
Don’t get me wrong tho, the overall Ivory experience is excellent. So many features rely on.
What I like about listening to vinyl has nothing to do with being an audiophile. Sure, I want the best playback system I can afford, and for sure don’t want to damage my records. For me it’s about the ritual and nostalgia. I like record stores, the physical objects of music that is important to me.
@puffer that's- I dunno I get it for sure.
Honestly with me it's just how it wound up. I graduated in 1989 with about 500 LPs and while everyone was buying CDs that was pretty easy to expand upon for really cheap when people were getting rid of their records. Then it became well, I don't wanna replace anything and I wanted Good Turntables since I invested so much in my records and didn't want to worry about DACs etc.
If I was 18 I would dedicate myself to digital
But haa I am proud of my LPs
Every time I go to download my digital-only (as in, I don't own the vinyl or CD) releases I pause, wonder, should I be downloading these as FLAC rather than 320Kbps? Then I look at the file size difference and think, that's so much more space, I'll need a bigger drive, more to backup. So I try to research, and realize that's an audiophile sinkhole that yields nothing useful. I'm unlikely to spend time a/b testing formats; my hearing is not golden anyway; my equipment just ok.
So ¯_(ツ)_/¯...?
Right now on #Shudder there are all 4 seasons of the SyFy series Channel Zero and if you like #horror I cannot recommend them enough. Each season tells a different story, each loosely based on a well known creepy pasta. And they are genuinely some of the most unnerving, freakiest fiction I’ve seen. They’re strong stories, rooted in real human drama and subtext, but also just filled with disquieting, surreal horror. Truly unique television.
@Robotron i rewatching that now. The one about the stairway to nowhere may be my favorite—super grisly. The puzzle house that feed on memories is also really sad and strange.
Shout out to @gnitro for hipping me to a Betty Davis album I wasn’t aware of. Fascinating story behind this “lost” record. Absolutely perfect discography, Ms Davis has
