@maltimore I mean just take a look at movies from back then. Performance felt hammy, overacted and downright unnatural. Partly because they had to talk differently because of technical limitations. People in real life don't talk like that. Technology these days just allows to capture it.

Looks like I'm going to have another audition next week. Of course the players need to play in Drop-C tuning sigh. Anyway tuned my EHB to C-Standard. What is it with guitarists and tunings? Get a 7 or 8 string if you need to go lower. Curious to find out if they actually know the notes they are playing or are going to call out fret numbers 😸 </snarkybassplayer>

You know that real clanky, metallic sound, like with Tool? How do you dial that in? I've never managed to figure it out.

It's a lot about technique. As far as I know Justin Chancelor plays with a pick and digs in quite a lot. The clack is basically produced by the strings hitting the frets. Getting that sound to be consistent is the "trick". Takes some practice since it can be quite exhausting if you are new to that.

@kbob Some minor annoyances. I don't like the fret job that much, have a coupe of buzzes here and there which can't be fixed just by doing a proper setup. Probably need to bring it to a tech. Overall however it's a pretty cool bass. Very light, portable, and massive tone. The on-board preamp is extremely versatile.

@kbob That being said, the issues only really matter once I go beyond the 12th fret for soloing… which is something I don't do a lot when performing. And by "not a lot" I mean: never 😸
