Can’t check out The Three Body Problem at our nearest bookstore because it’s sold out. Have to wait for several dozen people ahead of me to even get it at the library. That’ll be months from now.

This book better blow me away for this kind of demand.

Trying to learn the opening to Mayonaise by the Smashing Pumpkins via guitar tabs.
But the tuning is bananas.

Eb Bb Bb Gb Bb D?

I mean, it works, that’s bang-on with the chording. But good lord, how does someone come up with THAT kind of tuning? Three strings with the same note three octaves apart?

And here I thought tuning down the bottom E was pretty wild for playing Everlong.

I just spent an hour and a quarter in an online tech support chat trying to resolve Problem A with some web hosting thing.

They again, as their email support had tried earlier, walked me through how to proceed with Step B. But without A being resolved.

It was a case of me clearly explaining Problem A, them jumping over that to how to proceed (as it turns out with that problem already resolved) to continue.

Once I looped back around to re-state the problem I was having...

Hey, anyone who uses spreadsheets:

Any suggestion for where to look in order to have specific cells truncate the contents to just show whatever it can within the set width of the cell (vs. its default to bleed across all the columns to show the full cell's worth of info)?

I have long-ass contents needed in a specific column of cells but I don't need to see it all. Plus I need to get to the column right next to it.

I'm using the LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet, if that clarifies anything.

Giving a first real shot with one I borrowed from the library.

As I’d thought may happen, the quality of narration will be key to my enjoyment of it. This first one is split between two narrators who are clearly experienced at doing this kind of thing, which is good.

But then, unexpectedly, they’ve mispronounced a couple of words,
and the inflection one uses is sometimes different than how a sentence would read to me. Which is a bit distracting.

Very convenient format, though.

I’m reminded of my long-held opinion that — assuming we don’t blow or burn ourselves up — human toes will evolve into one wide, flipper-like extension of the foot, connected by cartilage or just musculature.

I don’t think they’ll just go away entirely, because we need the extra length and flexibility of feet for optimal movement. But aside from looking cute on some and being spank bank material for others, toes serve no purpose.

Like the pinkie toe with its weird nail. What is THAT about?

My brain, home from ten hours in the car yesterday: Guess I’d better set an alarm for late tomorrow morning because I could easily just sleep in, but can’t sleep too late.

My body at 6:30am: DONE SLEEPING NOW. GET UP.

The federal Conservative Party of Canada is starting a campaign of ads to try to make Pierre Poilievre, their new leader, appealing to the masses. Because he really, really isn’t.

I want to send them my pitches for the narration of some ads…

I continue to be confused about how mandy.com is considered the go-to for connecting entertainment industry production with people who suit the roles.

Well before the WGA strike, I discovered that writers are considered a crew position. That’s literally the category you need to search for writing work. That’s truly bizarre.

And now that the strike is on, a friend sent me a link there for remote-allowing writing work in the UK. But trying to apply gets weird.

I know people mock cargo shorts, but a) I’m a middle-aged dad so whatever, and b) I just re-discovered I can comfortably fit a decent-sized paperback in either one of the big pockets.

Wins all around.

Trying to remember if it was someone here who had a suggestion for how to take copy from an email and paste it into Scrivener but without copying over any formatting (i.e. dropping in the raw text and letting the Scrivener project formatting apply to the pasted material instead).

Does that sound familiar to anyone? Could you remind me what that suggested approach was to strip out the native formatting along with the copy?

Does anyone have any genuine insight into what probiotic is best to offset damage to good gut bacteria done by a general oral antibiotic?

Three sites I read say the S. boulardii strain is good for such a specific purpose. But a) I know probiotics aren’t regulated so it’s a bit of a Wild West on what you get with brand quality and b) there was only one just S. boulardii option on the health food store shelf, while other options had 12+ strains but no S. boulardii in them at all. 🤷‍♂️

Well ladies and gentlemen and whatever you other types call yourselves, Hunter Biden uses cocaine and has sex with multiple women, which makes Joe Biden EXACTLY as impeachable!”

Finally got to see my optometrist yesterday about my recurring styes.

The takeaway: Some people have particularly strong bacteria. That may be the case here. And/or the styes starting with a new brand of contacts may be connected because the new brand coating may have low-key irritated my eyes enough to open them up to infection.

She suspect the walk-in clinic doctor’s assessment is right, that the infections are repeatedly blowing up from never fully leaving in the first place.
