These are several levels of privilege at play when someone complains about the nerdiness and Linux geekery levels here.

But when I remember my teenage years where I was so poor Linux and the FOSS tools were the only legal option because it was free, and I got good at it because it was made to include people like me; seeing some dipshit first worlder who never had to survive on RM 2.80 (USD 0.50 approximately) a day opine on how Linux users are insufferable does annoy me quite greatly.

Me stating the OS I use is a sign of gratitude and pride. That despite and because of how I started off, I'm able to feed myself now because of the FOSS community. As insufferable as they may be to you, at least they helped me when I needed it.

Paying everyone so they have a comfortable living wage is not supposed to be a radical idea.

Setting up a system where billionaires don't exist and millionaires are ephemeral so we don't have to rely on every rich person to act like Keanu shouldn't need thesis level arguments.

It's simply human decency.

There is a very simple solution for everyone to join this strike. Just stop streaming and start pirating. Clearly the numbers don't add up when you know actors, set designers, and production labourers that are barely making it while studio executives commit ecocide with their private jets.

I was wondering why my overpowered desktop couldn't suddenly render scenes smoothly from videos. Way out of the loop because my CPU was such a beast handling video decoding, I didn't even realise the occasionally stuttering frames that started creeping in was because GPU decoding of some pretty darn important video formats for AMD had been removed for patent reasons.

Fortunately, there is an easy way to re-enable them.

There was a recent troll who came into the OpenSUSE mailing list to stir up some shit and I liked how the majority of the responses basically told him to go pound sand, because he was merely asking for the pride rainbow iconography to be removed from OpenSUSE's Reddit page because he reasoned, this distro project should "not be oriented towards any particular group or ideology."

FOSS is a political project. I can understand if the complaint was about not giving time to celebrate other events, but this one was definitely not a concern raised in good faith after the Reddit mods confirmed dude just has a case of incurable homophobia.

I run a headscale/Tailscale based VPN for my makerspace's fleet of servers and other devices. After the initial setup, everything is just chugging along.

Occasionally with some of my systems I end up having to debug the DNS resolver because of MagicDNS but that's nothing too serious compared to actually being able to roll my own VPN now within a few hours.

The challenge has been showing my colleagues why they should learn how to use a VPN beyond privacy protection. So I have been rolling out Jellyfin and other stuff to get them into it.
