seven years strong!! 💜

when I bought this bike, I was still in school and needed a simple, inexpensive bike that would get me from A to B. bonus points for offering my first foray into single-speed/fixed gear riding (it has a flip-flop hub!)

tbh I did not think this bike was going to last this long!! whether for wear & tear or theft reasons.

these are the original tires, if you can believe it. absolutely nuts how sturdy this guy is.

... maybe steel IS real! 😁

WTF Saanich. I have no problem with the raised crosswalk. Great idea. But why doesn't it extend into the car lanes where it could actually save lives?

under 10 minutes trip time each way. doubt this would have been much faster with a car honestly.

I'm all set for Fancy Women Bike Ride tomorrow! I've talked my kid into coming, we've decorated their scooter and the bakfiets, we've picked out outfits, and even a couple of different mask options depending on air quality.

I do use a mask when it gets really bad, but I can understand that folks don't, especially when it's warm out etc.

After 3+ years of "wear mask indoors", "wear mask also outdoors" is a bit of a tough sell. 😕

My city has a habit of keeping a new bike lane closed until its perfect. Does this make people safer or less safe? Do all cities do this? I made a new video that looks at this issue.

Locals! One of my nearest & dearest is defending his PhD dissertation over Zoom Friday. He’s in Germany now, but he lived here for years, and when I asked him which patio he’d like to see us dine on in his honour after the expected happy result, he suggested Ethiopian or Indian. I’m coming up mostly empty on those cuisines with patios (the Tiffin has picnic tables, but that doesn’t seem quite festive enough). Central/inner suburbs is best. Thank you for any/all suggestions!

Hey folks, I've been feeling like I am hearing sirens every 10 minutes. Especially when I go to bed, I notice that there's multiple sirens, honking, etc etc., all. The. Time.

So I did what any data wonk would do to see if confirmation bias or not, and went to https://data.edmonton.ca/browse?tags=police%20statistics.

Except those data sets all seem to be... from 2019. 🤔 Even when sorting by Recently Updated.

Anybody know what's up with that? Am I looking in the wrong place? Did the funding run out?

Watched the second half of a 22 min video this morning. There was about a minute of the narrator/creator reading out sponsored content (don't mind that too much, they gotta make money).

And then... no 20s later.... THREE ADS in a row. All of them only skippable after 10s or so had already elapsed.

did some shopping on our Rad Bikes today. were immediately approached by an elderly couple asking "how do you like your Rad Bikes??", so we shared how much we love them.*

the reason they were familiar with the brand was that a lot of their friends apparently had bought a Rad Bike over the past year, and every single one of them just loves it.

idk. I find this a bit icky. this incessant OpTiMiZaTiOn of kids' time, wifi in cars when pedestrians "need" to wear hi viz and OH LORD DON'T YOU WEAR EVEN JUST ONE EAR BUD!!, and so on and so forth.

this also follows on the heels of @TheWarOnCars episode on bike buses, and that seemed infinitely more appealing.

this morning I went for a quick run and down the block a woman was crossing a stroad at a huge marked crosswalk. drivers in three out of the four lanes are stopped, driver in fourth lane doesn't stop until he's in the xwalk and HONKS AT HER!!??

anyways she proudly marched on and gave him the finger and I have concluded we should probably be friends 💜

Okay hive mind! Where can I find the darkest, most -est bread* in ? Crust must produce a THOCK THOCK sound when you knock on it, like any good should.

I've tried a couple places but don't want to skew the results 🤠

Followup! The dark rye at Dutch Delicious is indeed delicious. Good crust. Fluffy on the inside. Classic rye taste. 👌 Gets my seal of approval.

Only thing is they can't slice it for you. So good luck with your lil knife at home, trying to slice this bad boy. 😂
