I don't have all the answers, but for me the alternative is to not tolarete them, not allow them, not make them known, not participate. It's to wither them by any means possible. But not violence. If we answer to violence by violence or hate by hate, everyone gets destroyed. Their means are hateful, why should ours be too?

We can't avoid violence. And we can't afford it either. We don't have to accept things as they are, but how can't you see we will not stop the violence by adding more violence...

For all the people saying 'Why are you still on twitter" I have two responses:

🔹 Before you ask someone that, you might want to look to see what the person is doing on Twitter.

I am telling people why they should leave and posting links to Mastodon and my blog. I have long-time readers who are still there.

🔹 I see people here accusing others of of being a "nazi supporter" or lacking morals because they have a Twitter account. That is the behavior of a jerk and doesn't make Mastodon look good.

@Teri_Kanefield I posted links to Mastodon and news about Mastodon for a couple of months. Then noticed people getting annoyed or even angry with me. Decided to stop and concentrate fully on Mastodon after that. They clearly don't want to listen and I'm not here to force feed them that agenda.

There's been an uptick in chatter about of late, leading to several very enjoyable chats with people this morning, so I thought I'd share my current setup to let you see one of the reasons I treat this as my Primary account.

It's the visuals. It's clean, oh so simple, and just...pretty, you know? Highly subjective, this kind of thing, but I do like my Pretties. What you'll also note is I've themed my browser, Vivaldi, to match Calckey! I even https://themes.vivaldi.net/themes/rwjvEjrPJAL for others to enjoy.

This is now a place that I genuinely enjoy visiting to hang out in, and that's even before https://calckey.social/notes/9dtxylzbf9. Mastodon on the web by comparison feels cold, austere and a touch clunky (I suspect that's why there are so many apps) and yes I'm aware of Elk which is better but still not quite as pleasant and graceful as this (though Elk is still in Alpha, tbf).

My screenshot also shows off 6.0s brand-spanking new Workspaces feature (right-most panel) whereby I can now segregate tabs into discrete groups over and above their already brilliant Tab Stacks feature - I click on the word Social at the top there and there are two more hidden away from view (Gaming, and the default). Yes, I have my Tabs at the right-hand side, like my Linux/KDE taskbars.

It's a lovely day outside so I hope it's the same where you are and that you get some time out in it. Happy Fridays, everyone.

One of the wonders are the "dead" files on the Linux server. After reboot gigabytes of data is freed. That data should not exist but it's still taking space.

@ikkeT Logrotate and log sizes are ok. That's the first thing I make sure is not the culprit.

@thingsiplay Yep, I mean just those. And there can be gigabytes of them if you haven't rebooted for a long time. My record is like 80gb.

@dustinrue I have no idea what is causing it so the reboot is necessary. I have also had situations in the past where seemingly NOTHING is causing it and everything is killed and quit and something is still taking space. 🤷‍♂️

@thingsiplay Yes, but sometimes it's not clear. Even if tmp is cleared out and all the files have been removed, something seems to hold the space for some files and it's only going to be freed after the reboot. I've seen this many times throughout my career, those files are nowhere to be found and those processes are not running.

@laimis I'm referring to the Mastodon search feature. Of course they can be fetched other ways or via Google, but not without a bit of effort. A regular user can't use the Mastodon search to find them with open text.

@kallekn Tässä on kaksi listaa, toinen on itse kasaamani lista "Suomalaiset", johon lisään jokaisen suomalaisen, jota alan seuraamaan. Mastodon-listoja ei voi jakaa tai avata julkiseksi.

Multi-instrumentalisti-muusikonalkutyttärelläni on jo 6 itse kirjoittamaansa biisiä. Ollaan nyt pari iltaa nauhoiteltu niitä. Tästähän saa vaikka levyn. Ovat siis ihan oikeasti hittiainesta. Heti kun on valmista niin SoundCloudiin/Spotifyhin menee, hänen ehdoillaan tietysti.

Musiikintuottopuuhissa, ultrawide näyttö, FL Studio dawina ja pluginit esillä. Pöydällä vihko jossa sanat ja soinnut.
Taustalla tytär soittaa klassista pianoa, edustalla midikiippari ja tietokonepöytä, jolla mm. karkkipussi.
Tyrtär soittaa klassisella Hellas-pianolla biisejään.

@camilobotero Thanks! :bunhdheart: As far as I know, no. It kinda already is an app if you apply it to instance-wide because Mastodon itself works as a Chrome app.

If someone wants to make an app with my UI, I'm all in for that. But while saying this it really cannot be used directly so you would have to re-design it to an app anyway so I don't see how it's related to my UI. User interfaces for different things just cannot be placed to completely different ecosystems directly.
