Thank goodness the racists in Ireland are stupid and loud enough to show who they are. It wasn't immigrants that burnt Dubin city centre.
They won't always be this stupid, eventually they'll look towards putting in a show of civility and a mask of dialogue. Some of them already are.

    The Tories are banning unisex toilets. What if a business only has space for one toilet? Does it change gender depending on who is inside? In which case Tories would actually be promoting trans toilets. No one saw that coming

    I'm having coffee in Wicklow. There's a stocky guy with a goatee talking to a young man about getting a media degree, because "we need to get a global foothold in this stuff. Most of those guys are funded by the Americans. And we are up against the new Taoiseach" I can't hear most of it, but it's intriguing...

    ronanmcd,
    @ronanmcd@mastodon.green avatar

    @humanhorseshoes that was my first thought. But there was a softer edge to the conversation, so that's why I was intrigued. It's just as likely they wanted to counter all that

    It is so fucking insidious how Facebook in particular has tricked business owners into thinking a Facebook page or Instagram is a proper substitution for an actual website. There is a crochet designer I love, but she is ONLY on Meta products, which means I CANNOT SEE YOU BECAUSE I DO NOT GO THERE.

    Fucking leaving money on the damned table because you refuse to make an actual site.

    Bad business, that.

    Are Apple Goggles gone? I saw they were cancelling their supply, so I went to look on the Irish site to see if there was an announcement. Out of curiosity; I could never justify or afford a pair let alone want them. But they just aren't on the site at all. No mention in search at all. Nothing

    ronanmcd,
    @ronanmcd@mastodon.green avatar

    @Theriac that's what I was curious about. What I heard was that fakes were so low they've requested to reduce future supply, and reduce the price in current units. I still wouldn't want one though

    I joined an organisation that helps connect small creative industries and clients (eg freelance designers etc). That organisation has now added a new strand getting businesses going with AI asset generation. Why would I stay signed up with an organisation that is actively cutting its own clients out of the creative process?

    @ronanmcd@mastodon.green avatar

    Just saw this stat saying F1 is the world's fastest growing sport. But that clearly cannot be true.
    Sport grows by participation. F1 may be the world's fastest growing sport-related consumer market. But that's a market not a sport.

    Words matter.

    ronanmcd,
    @ronanmcd@mastodon.green avatar

    @trendoid oh right, so it's not even necessarily true from a markets perspective as well as the obvious sports participation? Still, it can be a great spectacle. Often despite itself

    On a multi-person video call this morning, we were asked what podcasts we listen to.

    I didn't get a chance to chime in but here's my answer:

    None regularly. I don't have the time, even at fast playback, to listen to something linear that I could scan much more quickly if it was text.

    Podcasters, please post transcripts.

    ronanmcd,
    @ronanmcd@mastodon.green avatar

    @dangillmor I'm very much the same. I typeset for long stretches at work and read for pleasure. I can get through information as text much quicker than listening to someone... I also find listening to someone's voice mentally intrusive, messing up my concentration, and I still don't take in what I listened to
