Waiting for the day my current laptop dies so I can buy a Framework 16

runarcn, to books

I need more books to read. Any suggestions? Haven't read fiction in so long that I'm currently open to any- and everything😁

runarcn, to random

Alright, I'm looking for a new to have as a backup should I ever feel the need to move away from mstdn.social. Any suggestions?

So far I've only looked at tech.lgbt to be honest. I'm open to any and all suggestions, but I'd like to be on either a tech/Free software-related one or a general one.

I will not be moving to mastodon.social or universeodon, as I don't like the way they're headed.

Also, goes without saying, but no bigotry; screw transphobia.

Anyone got some good suggestions for some note taking apps that support motions?

Man, applying for hgher education in muisc is scary. You gotta go through like 3 or so entrance exams, and about 95% of people don't pass.

With each passing day, I get more and more tempted to just stop using basically any modern digital service, and become a FOSS purist who only owns an old laptop and a self-built printer.

runarcn, to random

ok but like software development on Arch is so neat, i just yay -S [whatever I need] and it's always there

So apparently as provided a reason for why trans women are banned from playing in womens tournaments, citing factors such as "physical endurance"...

You literally sit on a chair for some hours while moving a light wooden piece every minute or so. I- What?

Any of you fedi wizards that know of good account to follow to learn more about , , etc? I'd follow the tags, but I've often found that following big tags drowns my entire feed in one topic

I just bought myself an external keyboard and realized I forgot about something very, very important:

Keyboards don't have trackpoints.

So now I have to go through the eternal torment of reaching for my mouse whenever I want to navigate any GUI apps. That, or spam tab a million times.

The moral of the story is that you should never use any GUI apps and instead become a true Linux user who does literally everything from the command line.

ps: when is Mastodon gonna support vim motions?

runarcn, to random

fuck it, I'm giving Fedora Workstation a shot.

Okay, this keyboard I have right now sucks. It's a constant strain on shoulders, wrists and forearms. I'm going all in and buying myself a Moonlander from ZSA.

Currently running into this one super irritating issue whenever I'm trying to compile my CS50-programs and I can't understand why for the life of me.

I've installed libcs50 as per the instructions on Github and still get this issue.

Anyone here got some idea where I should look into troubleshooting or got any solutions?

I live in a relatively small town. Or rather, I'm from one, I moved elsewhere to study. And today we got news about yet another boy who took his own life.

This is the forth one that I know of, all aged between 18 and 23. Originally we just got news that he was missing which led to a big search. Today, they eventually found his body. Gone cold. While there might not be definite proof that it was suicide, there's no reason to believe otherwise.

So I just received word that an old friend of mine has recently passed away. No idea what happened, how or anything. Haven't talked with the guy since I moved either.

I honestly don't know how to react. He was always such a nice guy looking out for everyone and now he's just gone. At eighteen. Didn't even get to graduate high school.

I seriously don't know how to react guys this is all so weird

Okay, so

It seems that the issues I had on EndeavourOS were a direct result of outdated firmware, which leaves me with a slight dilemma. Do I:

  1. Reinstall EnOS with my perfectly optimized i3wm workflow again so I can have true inner peace, or

  2. Keep using Linux Mint for some time so I can know for sure if this is the Linux distro I want to recommend for newcomers and for a great onboarding experience?

Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Might leave mstdn.social for infosec.exchange some time in the near future.

No idea how in the hell my import has taken over 5 hours for 40 books already, but I guess it is what it is? Or maybe I've misconfigured something?

runarcn, to linux

Might mess around a bit tonight and configure . Anyone got some suggestions for cool things to add in my dotfiles?

It's been about 10 months since I installed /e/OS on my Fairphone 4, so I decided to write a long-term review / rant of it over at my blog. Feel free to check it out!

@Heliguy has been working real hard on lately, and it shows! In the past few days it's been featured on @thelinuxEXP's weekly Linux news podcast and video, and in among other things ^-^

Seriously, if you're a Flatpak user, why haven't you checked it out yet?

I'm rolling back my Fairphone to stock after almost 11 months on /e/OS. While the project is amazing, and more than just useable as a daily driver, the bugs which come from the nature of the project are starting to irritate me a bit too much.

Be it recording sound not working, Spotify randomly pausing, or microG not passing different security checks, it's all become too inconvenient for my current situation.

I still stand by everything I wrote in my review of it.

update: went with lineage
