3 Good Things

  1. The way the wind around the high rise makes snow go up instead of down.

  2. A really warm, kind personal rejection with an invitation to submit again.

  3. Tiny tweak to one of the flash pieces in the novella and it's ready to be submitted, very proud of this weirdo hermit crab.

- "Describe the saddest moment you've written." Rather than the saddest ever, the saddest in my novella in flash is when a person gets up the courage to stand up against oppression and no one backs her up. It was hard to write. How about you?

3 Good Things

  1. Writing an excerpt of a memoir one of my characters wrote for my novella in flash and laughing at how much I want to read the whole thing.

  2. The LaMian packaged laksa came out literally better than restaurant quality. (They have it at T&T in Toronto.)

  3. Syntax highlighting in Linux MAKES ME SO HAPPY.

3 Good Things

  1. Mysterious keyboard space bar issue mysteriously wandered away.

  2. Proved to myself that indeed half the socks ARE mysteriously gone.

  3. Mysterious headaches are probably because of coffee. Sob sob sob, but also, tea is really nice and I can pretend I'm on the Repair Shop when Todd brings me a cup.

  2. Cannot wait for 2 hours of laughing tonight with smart humans at improv class.

  3. With 2 acceptances under my belt am feeling much more excited about submitting stories.

3 Good Things

  1. Drank self-heating coffee, sometimes the future is JUST SILLY.

  2. Keeping a record of just one moment from each day in lieu of a diary and so far I love it.

  3. Finished the 1960s article for the novella in flash. Used Lacrosse names throughout. THE MOST FUN.

3 Good Things

  1. Toronto turns blue in the winter. Like, literally. Look out the window and it's blue.

  2. Excellent luck selling stuff we don't use that still works just fine. Now if someone would just buy my typewriter...

  3. Began a flash piece in the style of a 1960s newspaper article and REALLY enjoying it.

- "What aspects of your life do you bring into your writing?" I really enjoy setting my stories in the 70s and 80s, because I was there when they were happening and while both were FAR from ideal, there was a lot to love in the lack of technology. (I recently gave up on a book set in 1971 in which people used the term "partner" to refer to a girl/boyfriend and ordered macchiatos which is I guess what happens when the writer AND the editors are all in their 30s...)

sagetyrtle,

@sandralindsey RIGHT? I grew up in the States and the first time I ever heard anything but instant coffee mentioned was in stand up comedy shows on PBS in the eighties.

3 Good Things

  1. The first place I subbed the new short story encouraged me to send it to their sister publication AND to mention their names. Pretty great!

  2. I forgot how much I love to sing with other humans. I wish this musical improv class went for 52 weeks instead of 3.

  3. The app Too Good to Go means we can buy surplus unsold food for 1/4 of the price. Yesterday we got croissants, cinnamon buns, banana bread, and cheese bread for $8, ALL OF IT DELICIOUS.

3 Good Things

  1. I'm 51, so my 25 year old son telling me I'm nailing millennial slang in a piece I'm writing is VERY pleasing.

  2. A writer I admire VERY much has invited me to write a novella in flash with them and I am OVER THE MOON.

  3. The Starbucks that was a 5 minute walk away left and has been replaced by a socially conscious independent coffee place! I KNOW!
