Got started with cutting the fabrics for the Cat Quilt yesterday. There were four different cats on the panel, and while they're all good cats, this is perhaps my favourite cat!
Also, when you've really calculated how much fabric you can get away with, and then they cut it on the wonk in the shop? Displeasing!

Photo of a dark blue green fabric on the same cutting mat, with a big ruler on top of it, and a sliver of an off-cut in the process of being made. There is a full three centimetres of fabric being wasted, because the edge of the fabric does not follow the grain. It is wasteful and annoying.

Some day. Some day I would like to stage a tiny short video clip to make into a gif, wherein I'd be sitting at the computer typing in full historical regalia like "Replying to my correspondence" because sometimes I sit here right after waking up, sipping my coffee, and spend a good long while replying to all the comments I got during the night.

I feel like it would be amusing, but thus far hasn't been amusing enough for me to actually do it!

What Linux People Don't Get About The Rest of Us

It's fairly simple. I don't want to spend my time managing my OS. Finding drivers, and compatibility, and all that: you find that fun and interesting. I find it boring and irritating. When I sit down at my computer I want to do the thing I came there to do, not spend my time convincing my computer to run properly. With Windoze, I generally don't have to do that. It's not perfect at eliminating that stuff, but it's a lot less technical and involved than running a Linux distro.

Yes, I'm sure you're able to do just that. Make room in your brain for the idea that not everyone is capable of that, or wants to be capable of that. While I've no doubt that the sign I've hung out here will draw the Reply Guys like no one's business, you're not going to get me to change my mind. I know what I enjoy doing, and maintaining my OS is not among it.

I built - from scraps - my first PC at 14, in 1980. I'm not indigitate (think illiterate, but for digital stuff). I just don't want to. That's not where I get my entertainment from computers.

I'm very glad you get the enjoyment you do out of Linux. Long may it continue. But make room for the idea that we don't all enjoy computing in the way that you do, and that that is okay.

Or (tl;dr version): Damnit Jim, I'm a linguist not a mechanic!

@oldladyplays @GLaDTheresCake I like troubleshooting, setting up and figuring out things... When I want to do those things, not when I'm trying to do something else!

I think eventually I'm going to go deep enough into my anarchist commie phase (This is a joke! Mostly! 😂) that I'll move to Linux, but it will have to happen at a very very opportune time for me to have the interest and spoons for it.

Am also quilting, now that my machine came back from the repair shop. Finally landed on this simple but very efficient pattern of top-stitching, it catches all the weak points and runs from one seam to the next in a pleasant enough way.
I figure it must also be traditional, because this feels like something that would have been feasible enough with the earliest sewing machines!

You know what I hate? The type of chair you can't drape anything over for a second without it sliding straight off onto the floor. Why even make these?? Put the little knobbin things to the ends of the backrest, so cardigans, scarves and jackets stay on! For fuck's sake. 😐

We usually do a little kitty backpack chicken, where we see if my back starts hurting before he gets sick of being on my back. Usually he wins and I have to ask him to dismount!

Dad liked it! Hadn't painted or drawn anything for months, so it took many hours more than it should have, but still. He liked it.
I changed my mind about which way around I liked it, and then signed it again after scanning. Choose your own orientation, I guess. 😄
Pigma Microns, pattern drafting rulers, gold ink and Ecoline brush pens on Fabriano hot press!

The same drawing, flipped upside down, making the leaf-feathers look like they're growing up. It is compositionally roughly as balanced or slightly more balanced than the other way around. The saturated and deep colours contrast with lighter hues and a deep, comforting dark wood brown. The colours look like the refracted shine of light upon feathers despite it being the flat surface of a painting.

My sewing machine is very slightly but very annoyingly fucky. I think the shaft the presser foot attaches to might be tiny bit skewed, bent or at an angle, because the needle never aligns quite in the middle, and thus keeps bending slowly to the left as I sew... It's not super noticeable unless you're trying to do symmetric, very accurate sewing both sides of the presser foot. Which, coincidentally, I absolutely am! It also considerably shortens the safe life-of-use of the needles.

@Triffen I have very little hardware skills so I'm going to leave it to the repair people and get a generic maintenance done at the same time probably!

It's funny, while I could take a guess, I genuinely can't see any way to open the casing to see any of the mechanisms. I'm sure they were very clever when putting the thing together.

You know what the secret superpower of being asexual and aromantic is? Giving absolutely zero fucks about chasing tail, romance, crushes or what have you frees up so much time and energy for everything else! If you want romance or spicy things, just read a book or watch something, sorted! Most of the time you don't even care about that and can engage in your true passion of Obscure Niche Interests one through twelve!

It is I! The Outside Girl!

Here is the pictorial evidence of me pointing at the different crafted wood details on a pretty old building. And edit, another photo because my jacket I made is cute.
"Gosh that's a lot of snow for April", you may think, and indeed it is!

A more posed photo of Sini, looking at the camera, with her hands down. Her jacket has multiple quintessential qualities of the 1890s, foremost the huge lapels and the massive sleeves. It is just a generically nice photo also, and she looks a bit mischievous, even while wearing a white face mask.

Gaze upon an adorable asshole that keeps not listening to me and thus keeps giving me immense amounts of stress! Here he is, doing none crimes, unlike all the other times he does so many crimes!

sinituulia,

@purplepadma Well, a lot of the time he climbs into places he doesn't quite fit into, and thus drops things. Yesterday he dropped a framed painting that he has dropped at least twice before without learning a single thing, and my efforts to brace it were apparently insufficient... But this time the glass shattered and I spent a cool hour making sure I vacuumed every bit of it up. 🙃 And that he stayed away while I did that!

The littlest sir has been brave today. For several weeks he's been hiding during general working hours because he keeps hearing people move in the stairwell and this is apparently Hecking Stressful.
But today! Today he was napping on the bed with me when I woke up, listened to the distant sounds of workmen clattering, and didn't run into his Anxiety Cave! My little sir! :blob_cat_heart:
Here he is pondering the sounds and life.

Brace yourselves for a reproduction postcard from 1915 or so, a cornucopia of an increasing number of "Wait, what?" the longer you look at it. It has chickens and the barest fucking tangential connection to the holiday of Easter and that's wonderful. Gaze upon it:

@jonobie 😄
Yup, the scarf! Are those glass eyes on that rooster, or has something eldritch occurred? I wonder, because the other rooster head has a slightly different expression! And don't roosters usually fight, was there some kind of ménage à trois going on? ...or has this lady previously had two similar roosters, perhaps brothers or twins, and taken the chicken's beloved from her on two different occasions? Did she go around looking for similar colour roosters so her apparel would go together? I continue having multiple questions!

@futurebird In case it is of interest to you, I stumbled upon this game that kind of has ants but doesn't have ants. Ant-like robots!

The general vibe of a guy playing the demo was that the game was made by someone who definitely liked ants and I immediately thought of you like: "Oooh but what would myrmepropagandist say about this scent trail routing, is it too gamified or a fun solution? 👀 Also the roboants are cute"
Edit: game is Microtopia!
