Sometimes the brain likes 19th century tragic opera with an exquisite soprano. Sometimes it just likes when the sound goes beep and then boop and then it does the synthetic cymbal crash exactly when it's predicted to, because that's where the synthetic cymbal crash belongs. And then a drop, because why shouldn't there be a drop?

@Uraael I can both appreciate the desire for the artists to take creative licence with their own songs but also feel the jarring disconnect when they throw a jazzy little scale change in there for funsies. 😆
I can play back entire songs in my head almost exactly and know when there's something different, though it doesn't always bother me.

I have put the linked video onto the list of things I will look at properly when I have the brain for it, wherein it might live for quite some time but I'll eventually get to it! But I did take a peek and I feel like Gridwalker definitely also takes influence from old games. I'm a bit too young to remember Atari, but my brother did play a bunch of emulated games on the PC and do remember those. 😶

Unsure if I've ever shared my personal philosophy here, but it goes: "People are going to look, so give them something to fucking look at!"

I developed it when I was younger and visibly goth and queer, possibly even more so than now. People stared but I was always without a doubt the most interesting looking person on that bit of street, so I couldn't fault them for it! And anybody who had issues with it could see just how little I cared to hide.

If people are going to stare, just wear your favourite weird fabulous thing, the cute eyeshadow, the nice shoes that are comfy. Hold your head up high and walk on like you own the world. You're not the boring person without taste looking on and silently judging, you're the one who is feeling good about themselves and being who you want to be.

They're going to look anyway, make them remember that they looked! 😄

Hey, mending people? I have these cotton knee socks that have a thinning bit under the heel that I'd rather darn before it becomes a hole, but am uncertain about what to use. I have a cat that eats yarn so ideally I'd use any and all of the cotton thread I have, but is there some trick to it?
Doubled up thread, double-double thread? I'd assume you'd just darn as normal, just smaller, but does anyone have direct experience?

As an unrelated note, you ever watch a show that had potential but was fucked over by the studios and doomed into mediocrity, just because the characters start out as compelling and you know that within a year it will have some bonkers good and quite well written fanfic made of it?

I feel like we as a society have made a miscalculation when we pay mediocre dudes looking for a check to write commercially palatable stories, when instead we could let some random bitch (tone: with absolute sincere admiration, affection and respect) with an obsession and too much spare time come up with a multiverse spanning epoch with time travel, a random dog and a surprise baby and just go absolutely ham

Some random fanfic writer: I was dissatisfied with the season finale and thus have begun my personal take on how I would have liked it to work out. It only publishes once a month because I am working on a dissertation and my girlfriend adopted kittens and my personal life can only include some writing for now. It is currently 270 000 words long.

A friend's mother had some pretty arthritic fingers and was unable to wear rings, so when her fresh husband at a more advanced age proposed to her, he gave her a beautiful little high quality watch instead of a gold ring. And I just think that's very cute and a good idea!

You know. I'd feel a lot more charitably towards billionaires and millionaires if they just chucked wheelbarrow-loads of money to different architecturally inclined historical societies so they could restore and maintain all kinds of cool old buildings.

Old train station on a closed line, rotting until someone torches it? Douse it with cash, let some weirdo make a living history museum out of it and live in it, pretending to be a train station manager!

The decrepit house of some old marginally influential poet, but truly a bonkers bit of local construction?
Set some carpenters and craftspeople upon it, stuff their pockets with enough money they can just go hog wild carving some crown moulding until the cows come home, their families thriving.

You could spend that money in such interesting ways, one of them building conservation!

Random Finnish lessons:

When something goes wrong, we have multiple colloquial ways of expressing it. Going more for the vibes than the direct translation, you have:
"Nyt meni päin honkia" - This took a turn and went straight into the trees
"Nyt meni pieleen" - You have hit the side instead of the middle where you were aiming for
"Nyt meni vituiksi" - Now you fully fucked it up
"Nyt meni höpöksi" - Poppycocked it up, love

Meanwhile! The boys were having a nap in my lap and it was very cute.

Me, carefully inching the phone closer to their napping faces, quietly in my head: ENHANCE

A much much closer up photo, wherein nearly all of the frame is taken up by cat faces, with two soft paws also just in frame. As abstract shapes it's a nice interplay of white fur and copper fur, with some deep brown and black, but also the cats are quite adorable. The brown tabby has moved enough that his face is now visible in side profile, his big triangular ear mostly obscuring half of the ginger cat's face. They both look very content.
