They tried to arm teachers. And they put cops in the hallways. I love the idea of this, but it’s wildly tone deaf. In any case, “thoughts and prayers” is closer to what’s needed - smaller class sizes and better mental health support - than whatever this guy thinks is the solution.

Like I said: I agree with what he’s trying to say, but it’s extremely poorly thought through and said.

Oh, you mean our ancestors. You’re over-generalizing. Many black people did not voluntarily come to the US, but many have, both since collonial times through today. Things got worse in the US for blacks throughout the 1700’s and after, but by no means is every black person in the US descended from involuntary (enslaved) immigrants. Voluntary immigration of black people has continued since emancipation through today in healthy numbers. Most of us did not choose to be born here.

Really? I just spun up a gotosocial instance on a VPS and was up and running in a dozen minutes. Failing that, I’d have just joined mastodon.social. Why was it a hard decision for you? As a tech person, what about “federated” was confusing? I have a second account on a spoken language-specific server, for kicks; I set both of these up within an hour of each other. I donft understand how it could be considered a hard choice.

Now, the finding people, I could understand, but since I was not on Twitter to begin with, I had nobody I cared about following. I can understand how that would be challenging, although it has nothing to do with your home server selection.

I guess that would harm you if the class is graded on a curve. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be caught and penalized, only that expulsion from the university is a harsh penalty. Automatic failure of the class would hurt plenty, without utterly destroying someone’s life.

I will say up front that I am not a cheater - not because of good moral character, but because I am a terrible liar. It’s less stressful to me to risk failure, than to risk being caught.

That said, a lot of cheating is excellent preparation for work in corporate America. I don’t like that it is, but it is. My main beef with capitalism is that it encourages, breeds, and rewards the absolute worst attributes of human nature. There’s literally nothing in capitalism that speaks to anything good in people. Knowing how to cheat, cheat profitably, and (most importantly) avoid being caught is perhaps one of the most useful skills in the American capitalist corporate space.

At least, in the many states with protections against deadbeat dads. There are still a few where ex-spouses have no protection.
