This needs its own post.
First off, I’d love to explore it, especially the very top. But what is up with the windows?? The center jumble on second floor to start, but even the far right windows on 1st, 2nd, 3rd floor all have different spacing. Middle decks are staggered, in fact the whole middle “shaft” seems like an add-on. The left/right 3rd story roofs don’t match, other than the slate.
@knizer@jerzone Any time there's a set of windows with weird spacing or heights (bottom too high or top too low) I immediately suspect it was a quickly converted porch. The radiator theory bares some truth, too, but framing a window around a radiator seems like an awful prospect.
Perhaps it was not, in fact, a wise idea to recommend a bunch of people new to servers to go off and host their own server for a microblogging platform when their primary relevant experience was "liking to make tweets"
(I think we might finally have gotten ahead of the spam wave, yaaaay)
Basically I glanced at CD rates, and, is this normal? I don't get why the return rate on 9 months is so high. Or why the yield actually drops on the longer CD terms. Or why the money market account is higher than all but the 9 month CD. Shouldn't the rates just like, go up the longer the term? And shouldn't the money market account be markedly lower than CDs?
Like, is the US economy just in a fucked up place right now, and the banks are going "yup shit's weird" and this is how it looks when they brace for a shakeup? Or something?
@glassbottommeg Pretty sure it's the banks saying "yup! Shits weird". They're bearish on the long term, bearish on the short term, and shrug ish on the medium term. FWIW I've been seeing the same pattern across a lot of banks.
Another Scold of Mastodon just told me I should be "ashamed" for posting a photo of the WTC, so I'm going to repost that thread now. Because I am incapable of shame.
I just got a complaint about my #photography posts, which I concluded came from a troll, but perhaps I’m actually coming off in a way that rubs people the wrong way here.
The complaint was that by posting high resolution images and describing in detail the processes used to create them, I’m merely “showing off” in a way that isn’t useful to most people.
I indeed do rather niche photography, using relatively esoteric gear. I think some people are interested in process and enjoy the results.
CVS canceled my COVID booster shot appointment for tomorrow, saying they are out of shots.
I am irritated, not least because I waited this long for my shot in the first place at the recommendation of my relevant physician, because I just had a large dose of an immunosuppressant medication, and there is a concern that I wouldn't mount a sufficient response to the vaccination too soon after that.
@siderea The Davis CVS seems to be pretty quick in the middle of the day. I had to wait like 10 minutes to check in because the lady behind the counter was new, but I got the shot maybe 3-4 minutes after I checked in?
Will post more tomorrow. Please understand I am completely earnest.
And that you should respect Taylor Swift as much as I do. This started as kind of a joke where Taylor Swift was a genius. And I learned... it wasn't a joke. My respect for her is true and learned coming up on 10 years.
@SwiftOnSecurity I think I've said it before, but when Blank Space dropped, and she was copying the signature feature of every female pop artist at the time, and doing it well, that's when I knew not to fuck with T-Swizzle.
Ok, #music experts, what the heck do you call the genre that Tally Hall and Ben Folds both factor into.
Best I've heard from modern critics (of Tally Hall) is "Wonky Rock". Is that it? Because I want more of it, dangit. But I don't especially want to go back to Ben Folds, heh.
Total aside. I love that half the news stories about Jack Smith, the special counsel leading the federal investigation of Trump, use this photo of him. (Taken of him in his official garb at his day job prosecuting war crimes in The Hague.)
He looks FREAKING TERRIFYING. If he were coming after me, I’d run.
This is exhausting. I wasn’t trying to be difficult, I was trying to, I thought helpfully, explain why I didn’t use those tags. But this sort of thing happens like half the time I post photos, and it makes it really unrewarding to take the time to share.
Please respect artists’ choices for how they describe their own work.
