I am absolutely DYING about Count Binface getting more than TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND votes in the London mayor election. I cannot stop laughing, it's cracking me up. So awesome.

we are hosting an amazing festival of art and spirituality in St John's Church in Gourock -- with pieces created just for this by local artists, high school students, and people who just signed up for workshops. We have a lecture, an artist discussion panel, and a spirituality cafe event planned, as well as just general opening hours TBC. Share far and wide, it's the thing to experience in Inverclyde this November!

Welcome to Autumn 2023 Day 03, 2 Sep, Carrigaloe - Cork – Dublin

@jon fascinating! It didn't do that from Belfast to Dublin when I traveled two weeks ago. But It was a nice enough train, if a little chaotic on the boarding front. (no ticket gates at Lanyon Place so you have to queue at least half an hour beforehand and have tix checked by a person on your way to the platform!)

@jon arrive half an hour early to queue. 🤣

As someone who has actually read Adam Smith, I find it amazing that he is considered to be the father of libertarianism and celebrated by modern-day greedy capitalists.

The Wealth of Nations is basically him observing vehicles of corruption and trying to find means to improve equality.

I'm not even sure if the editors of the Uni. Chicago Press edition have even read the whole thing themselves.

What this does symbolise is how a certain class of people are bullshitters through-and-through.

@Peternimmo @alda on my post-easter holiday i got into a weirdly deep convo with a random stranger in the hotel lounge, over drinks obvs, about this very thing. That while proponents of late-stage capitalism may believe they're heirs of Smith, in reality he's been so distorted as to be nearly unrecognisable.
not exactly how I thought my 11pm dram was going to unfold but there you have it.

When I am NOT working on railway policy, and would have time to work on ferries, I'd work to make it a legal obligation that every ferry everywhere has to carry foot passengers

tericarol,
@tericarol@mastodon.scot avatar

@jon ugh yes. i wanted to go from Liverpool to Dublin but no foot passengers....so frustrating and something I had never heard of before. It seems so much easier to take foot passengers than cars! Decided to take my holiday in Belfast instead, bus from Glasgow to Cairnryan will take me on the ferry!

If you have notes in Evernote it might be a good time to make sure they are safely backed up! Evernote looks to have fired almost all its employees.

@liaizon @Peternimmo this is a disaster for me and I didn't even know about it....ayayay. things I did not anticipate doing today: researching alternatives!

The Lion Chambers on Hope Street in Glasgow.

Designed by James Salmon Jnr in a mix of Glasgow Style and Scottish Baronial, and built using the Hennebique System of reinforced concrete in in 1905, this building was once home to an eclectic mix of retail outlets lawyers chambers and artists studios.

@thisismyglasgow the ground floor is in use as the best curly hair specialists in the country. :-)

tericarol,

@thisismyglasgow yeah, anytime I’ve been in to get my hair done I’ve never seen any evidence of upper floors. But Belle & Blackley did a lot of work to get ground floor useable. :-)
