Given how hard they chase him, I'm pretty sure those ghosts are chasing Pacman because he murdered them.

I don’t really know how to ask this but like is there some company or creators social media you think is just great? You’d hang out/follow it even if you didn’t care about their products/art?

The thing that annoys me the most about the AI situation is all the assholes who came crashing in saying “all technology is fine” and “it’s here to stay” and “if you hesitate you’ll be left behind”. The implication was that caution was a sin. And that mindset? Thays the mindset of the crazy capitalist, the move fast and break things mindset, the entrepreneurial ideal. And that idea is EVERYWHERE in our culture, and championed. And apparently in game design a lot. And it’s a broken ideology.

i'm probably the only one, but maybe i'm not. maybe there are lots of people who find new years as difficult as others find christmas or mothers day. You don't have to look forward to things, or look back at things if it hurts you. I'm with you in this.

Remember if you’re teaching games you need to explain tactics as well as rules. Why you do things not just what you do.

Years and years ago I remember perusing a fantasy series set in an alt-earth in a sort of 19th century steampunk thing with the two great power blocs of Europe rattling their sabres ala pre ww1 except the blocs were like steampunk tech vs I think maybe anthropomorphic animals? The only thing I remember was the map in the front that divided Europe into something like “the clockwork empire” and “the beast alliance” or some such… can anyone help?

I think this rpg is about how reform requires power, but power can prevent reform. You keep it and you’re a tyrant, you give it away and people rush back to their old habits…and ttrpg players hate two things more than anything: losing their cool power ups and NPCs messing with their plans. You can keep those if you like. It means you’re the bad guys.

Not all religions and doctrines are equal but a lot of nerds like to play “god poker” where they like to pretend Druidism or the Norse or Greek gods are way better than Christianity and it’s cheap and lazy.

@athena_rose922 not to mention Buddhist pogroms in south east Asia led by buddhists.

    Nov 16: What ancillary writing apps do you find the most useful?

    Google Keep means I can take notes on whatever device I'm using, wherever I happen to be, about whichever book, game, other project I'm working on.

    That and an old-fashioned notebook and pen.

    tinstargames,
    @tinstargames@dice.camp avatar

    @golgaloth what’s google keep? Does it connect to google docs?

    tinstargames,
    @tinstargames@dice.camp avatar

    @golgaloth I guess the question is, why it instead of a google doc?

    No political discussion can happen without agreeing that this is true, that significant slices of the population can and do kill people for fun.

    Now reading: Misspent Youth by Robert Bohl. I skipped this one until now because my adolescence was literal torture so anything about being a teen is a trigger for me. But the mechanics of this game are also about bringing down authority and are also interesting in their own right. It’s the genre of rpg I like most and tend to write: the setting content is not specified but the themes and structure ARE.

    The tabletop gaming industry is a lot like the stand up comedy industry in that the gap between enthusiast and creator is very very small and easy to do, and theres a huge amount of support around taking that step. but the gap from there to professional or making money or being famous can be massive and may just not be possible. This is also relatively true of other things but writing a novel or learning to paint say feels much bigger at the first step.

    @golgaloth this is true yup. It’s self publishing all the way down

    REMINDER: ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and other large trained neural models are NOT "artificial intelligence", they're just stochastic parrots, remixing and regurgitating what they've been fed. There's no theory-of-mind involved, so no understanding: there's no "there" there. (A real live parrot exhibits more intelligence than this.)

    Don't call it AI; call it parrot-tech. That way you'll have a better perspective on what it can (and can't) do.

    tinstargames,
    @tinstargames@dice.camp avatar

    @cstross but is there mind in anything?
