So, right now I'm kind of winging these kind of things.

But to any gurus? How do u approach joining two circles like this?

i would just eyeball it
but rounded line ends or corners - you can choose in the stroke menu - might help you to make it look more polished

YouTube pretends to offer me a "reactivation" of a previously used service - but must know exactly that I've never paid for it before, because the small print states something about this offer being for "new users only".

The thing I learned just now is that if you're going to do Plex. Do it on Ubuntu.

The amount of pain and suffering I went through doing it on openSUSE was enormous. On Ubuntu it just worked. Now whether that's because the permissions are already correct or Ubuntu is just better supported, IDK

Hey / / wm / folks:

How do you set your "desktop" to dark mode??

Is there a simple config change, or (lemme guess, lol) a separate change for GTK and Qt?

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

@RL_Dane doesn't the terminal come with like a black background? i don't understand your question... ^^

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

@RL_Dane you can set an environment variable or something like that iirc... i did it somewhere, just can't remember on which occasion

You know what would be a nice addition to in ? A different set of applications in the task bar.

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

@bananabob just have a second task bar...
maybe you can even set up a hotkey for switching

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

@bananabob maybe i didn't get your request right, you want an additional set of applications for the panel or just another set from the start?

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

@bananabob
aaaahhh, yea, hmm, you could do it manually with some standalone bars. i'm not sure if it would be possible in cinnamon. but at the end you would need to have a script that switches the workspace and at the same time exchanges the app-starters and that script you call with your usual workspace switching hotkey.
would be easier to have two bars and switch between them along with the workspace and yes, you'd need two bars for it

My biggest problem with Waybar isn't that I have to re-learn CSS to use it, it's that I have to learn json. I'd rather use yml, tbh. ffs

as someone regularly working boring nightshifts, coffee is your enemy. you want black tea.
if tea is no option you could add some nutmeg to the coffee. so the caffeine works a bit slower but longer and keeps you away from falling into the hole after the high.
for low sugar or the need of quick energy a banana is perfect

I've always been bothered with the saying "code as if the next person maintaining your code is a violent psychopath who knows where you live".

Why are we instilling fear and promoting toxic behavior and workplace violence?

You should code so that you can take that beach vacation without having to be on call.
Code so that you have free time to be with your family.
Code (and document things) so that you can leave the project for something even bigger.

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

i need notes not to forget groceries i don't buy regularly...
so i do comment what i code basically for myself because i know when i leave the room and come back i will wonder what the heck i have thought about doing stuff this way...

Edit: the thing with the violent psychopath, i'm not sure about yet...some day the intrusive thoughts may win

To the Linux experts:
I have a 12-year-old laptop from Acer. It got 8GB of RAM and a Intel i5 processor. I want to use it for work. It should be able to run VS Code, a browser and maybe VirtualBox. Currently, I installed Ubuntu Server, and it works pretty good (even VMs). But I'm planning to get a new monitor and use it with a Desktop OS. The OS should also not look bad, and it should run fluent 75% of the time. Any distro recommendations? I have some experience with Linux.

I am seriously thinking about switching from Microsoft to . I am so fed up with Microsoft messing up my settings with every update, and there is so much bloatware.

Will a switch mess up my whole PC life or will it be a smooth transition with maybe a few hickups?

Well, I did successfully switch from Word to (writing my book) and am using the Google thingies.

I have the Sims4 (for Windows). Will that work under Linux too - with some fiddling?

Nighttime thinking 😸

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

you could install linux alongside windows, so you can switch back if really needed. there is some time needed to fully convert and to set your own workflow

torsten,
@torsten@fosstodon.org avatar

@bananabob own /home isn't necessary as beginner. even as experienced user it always depends. for me it never worked properly over the years. i prefer to have a seperate data partition for media files like music and videos so my home is small enough to keep it on /
