YouTube pretends to offer me a "reactivation" of a previously used service - but must know exactly that I've never paid for it before, because the small print states something about this offer being for "new users only".
Haha, #YouTubeMusic (my "#Spotify" service) did send me a "recap" – so basically a breakdown about what type of a music consumer I am... and it's hilarious!
Apparently Googles all seeing eye err... algorithm knows it all. No doubt possible.
They say the music style I like the most is... lightweight JAZZ!! Hahaha, no really. If they say that! And my favorite musician is consequentially... Gary Burton (vibraphone maestro). Hihihi...
Now, nothing against jazz, nothing against Gary. But who would know, they are my favorites? I mean, that's news to me!
And it couldn't be more wrong!
I know how this came to be though. Story time:
I had a friend coming over. I cooked for her and also prepared for a good acoustical mood in my living room. She plays saxophone and flute in various orchestras in her spare time but likes strange indie music as The Frogs (yes!), so for my "acoustic mood preparation" I wanted A) surprise her by selecting unusual stuff, but B) something classy as well plus C) something that isn't distracting... so I've assembled a large 60s Vibraphone jazz playlist. And that took time, and I did testplay this multiple times until it felt right before that evening came, where it was played again.
And that was apparently enough for Google to know about my listening habits. It has nothing to do with what I usually listen to and also shows that I spend the major part of my music time not on YouTube music but on Bandcamp and/or local "on device" music using other player apps.
'A Certain Trigger' by Maxïmo Park is a good album. I never choose to listen to it, but when a song from that album pops up on Shuffle, I realise how much I like it.
I’ve started testing out alternatives to #Spotify as they’re putting their prices up yet again! £20pm for Family plan now. 🙄
I’ve started with #AppleMusic as I had a 2-month free trial, but the Windows app is trash. It keeps telling me playback has stopped on another device. It wasn’t playing on another device in the first place. Also songs just randomly stops playing or starts from the beginning again. 🤦♂️
@EighthLayer I really want to like #YouTubeMusic. I never had any problems with the #GoogleMusic app or service back when that was a thing. But I just generally dislike the YTM app interface.
The biggest issue with it is on desktop though - because I have a YouTube brand account tied to my personal YouTube account, it treats the two as having separate libraries in YouTubeMusic for some reason. So if I'm on YouTube with the brand account then pull up YTM, I have to swap accounts.
Ended up deciding to go back to Spotify, after about 4 years (I think?).
Even though some things are worse than before, it still feels so much better than Youtube Music and Apple Music.
And they are testing MVs in some countries, which I have yet to see how it works, but I hope it's closer to Youtube Music - in a way that works - instead of Apple Music
Damn, it's a REAL bad look for Google to hire a contractor to work on YouTube Music, then when the employees of that contractor vote to unionize, you cut their project, and have security escort them out for being "trespassers".
Now's as good a time as any to dump that #YouTubeMusic subscription...
Clear union busting antics here by another corp refusing to take care of its employees.
Gack, this story about Google apparently laying off YouTube Music employees who were trying to unionize? (Haven’t seen any reported/verified coverage yet, but watching.)
Long time YTM customer here. Initial feeling is that this is unacceptable and I guess I’m looking for streaming alternatives?
I think I'm going to give YouTube Music another shot. It just doesn't make any sense to pay for a separate music streaming subscription on top of what I already pay for YouTube when YouTube Music is included. Especially given that my own music listening is relatively minimal.
This is without a doubt my favorite Daughtry song of all time. Over You is the name of the song.
When it first came out 17 years ago, I played it on repeat for hours and hours on end. Every drive to work at the time, which was 40 minutes one way would have this song on repeat as well.
It's a song that I've seen Daughtry perform 4 different times live in concert.
So this year was pretty much my musical theater phase, huh?
I wonder how they count listens, though. I've definitely listened to Sweet Transvestite way more than 14 times, but I'm the type of person who likes to replay certain parts of the song and sometimes skip the very end.
This might also be why Stay With Me is in my top 5. It's part of my work playlist, so I actually let it play all the way through.
