@wervice@fosstodon.org

I like to develop software in several different applications.

The languages I like the most are:
:javascript: :html5: :css3: :python: :c_language:

I like to learn new languages, tools and frameworks.

You can find many open source projects on my GitHub profile.

At the time, I am working on Codelink and Zentrox (:javascript: & :c_language:).

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

I just used the :linux: :kde: app Spectacle.
It is used to take screenshots. The included annotation tools are amazing for blurring, captioning,...

The developers really tought this program through. ๐Ÿ˜„

@conansysadmin I love how they will always put :q! on any programming related article even though it has nothing to do with vi.

How do you folks listen to music on your computers?

I have recently gone down the rabbit hole of setting up my library. I am trying to listen to things locally over streaming. Boost if you could.

@Wyatt
On desktop: Spotify Web App with custom Stylus to change the interface
On Mobile: YouTube or Spotube

(I would use other tools on desktop, but I do not want to buy Premium)

What do you think about the Warp

Warp terminal homepage: https://www.warp.dev/

wervice,
@wervice@fosstodon.org avatar

@visone I tried it. It really baffled me, that it required me to sign up.
After signing up, I realized how slow it is. I wasn't even able to get nvim running at an acceptable speed.

To its defense, I ran it on a 14yo laptop, nonetheless Alacritty and Konsole were way faster.

I also think that adding AI to a terminal is kind of weird.

I am continuing work on Zentrox. Today I almost finished user.c completly. The only problem is, that empty strings get replaced with -1in the databases.

I am working on fixing this as well.

Did you ever wonder who GitHub repositories add these small badges on the top, showing stars, downloads and the latest release? I looked around the internet a bit, and I think here they all come from: https://shields.io/

I'm working on a JS script that lets you manage packages on Linux (and maybe also Windows) from , as part of Zentrox. I'll see how it goes. If it works fine, I'll try to make it a small library.

Meanwhile, the inventor of the .webp file extension actively tries to defend himself on social media. Use the wget or curl command to avoid any browser or CDN converting .png to .webp on fly when downloading the file. No need to blame the inventor. Even windows has the curl command installed by default now apart from linux and unix. People are just lazy ๐Ÿ˜‚ it is easier to get mad at someone online these days

wervice,
@wervice@fosstodon.org avatar

@nixCraft I think blaming the inventor or saying he'd be hit by a bus is the worst. Even when WebP would be terrible, wishing that somebody is being killed isn't ok.

The personal CMS prototype project is plodding along. Clearly, design is being completely overlooked in favor of basic functionality.

Today's task was to create a live preview of the HTML created by the Markdown input.

wervice,
@wervice@fosstodon.org avatar

@kevinctofel @OrangeAndBlackk You may want to use marked for Markdown rendering. Also, if you have something where the user can write text that also gets shown to others, you should try to sanitize it, otherwise XSS would be possible.

Anyway, a very cool project.

Small Stylus idea:
If you have Stylus added to your browser, you can create a new design for the Mastodon servers you use and use the content of this file:
https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/mastodon-bird-ui/blob/main/layout-single-column.css

It will enable Bird UI using CSS only.
Bird UI was developed by ronilaukkarinen on GitHub and look pretty cool.

To the Linux experts:
I have a 12-year-old laptop from Acer. It got 8GB of RAM and a Intel i5 processor. I want to use it for work. It should be able to run VS Code, a browser and maybe VirtualBox. Currently, I installed Ubuntu Server, and it works pretty good (even VMs). But I'm planning to get a new monitor and use it with a Desktop OS. The OS should also not look bad, and it should run fluent 75% of the time. Any distro recommendations? I have some experience with Linux.

But thank you for the idea. Maybe I will run it in a VM
