@pluralistic When in 2000 I wrote a search engine review to an Estonian computer magazine I considered Altavista better for refined and accurate searches, but appreciated Google for generic queries as it lacked optional keywords and did not well enough respect my operators -- I think it was rather mass than magic that made me out of convenience prefer Google more and more, because the core experience did not ever really change. https://gafgaf.infoaed.ee/posts/internetis-ronivad-3mblikud/

@stux @Overbern Indeed it seems more like curated by a certain club kind of lists instead of anything broad majority or multi party consensus type. The idea of composing that kind of list in a similar way is neat though, so pull requests or forking could make sense.

@kkarhan It was a bit frightening, because the foxxo appeared out of the woods at night, for some time sitting in safe distance from our campfire, avoiding eye contact, but then slowly came to perform an intense nasal inspection of the food storage on our table. That's the picture of a fox stepping on a bench -- I was sitting on the other side of the table looking into its eye as the animal seemingly decided that our ridiculously small amount of cheese wasn't worth an armed robbery and moved on.

@thegibson I wonder why I haven't seen much talk on possible licensing schemes to disallow that. It's not a silver bullet, but already using CC BY-NC-SA for toots could be helpful against corporate takeover. Or maybe Mastodon admins in secret still think that at some point they'd like to monetize?
