@gamingonlinux I think the Deck 2 should use an ARM CPU instead of an x86 one. They're smaller, more efficient, and offer significantly better battery life.
@dansup Gnome is kinda like MacOS in some ways, but they're very different and I would hesitate to call them similar at all.
Gnome is very heavily focused around the idea of hiding information unless you specifically request it. The desktop is entirely blank outside of the top panel, and app management happens almost exclusively within the overview.
It also is designed to be used on pretty much any input device, meaning it has a lot of gesture support and multiple ways to do the same action. For example, the overview can be opened with the super key, the hot corner, or a three-finger swipe.
For this reason, I like Gnome on laptops, where screen space is at a premium. However, I typically like to use something else on a desktop, where I lack a touchpad for gestures and preserving screen space is a little less of a necessity.
Nobody seems to have noticed it but the Mastodon project have been granted funding by @NGIZero in the Entrust fund.
This is amazing, but the best part is that this funding is targeted at implementing… Quote Posts 🎉
This effort started several months ago and we already did some preliminary work, but this will be a big feature for our next 4.4 version. This funding will cover the ActivityPub work, as well as backend, web frontend and official mobile app implementation.
@annika most of these complaints are a result of Twitter culture, not a cause of them. After all, Tumblr is entirely designed around quote posts, and (for the most part) has a whole lot better of a culture than Twitter or Mastodon.social do.
After a lot of messing around, I finally managed to get Plasma 6 running on NixOS! I'm gonna continue messing with the config for a few days, then I'm hoping I can set this up on my primary drive.
@torepang I had to use the unstable branch, and also add '--upgrade' to the 'sudo nixos-rebuild switch' command (the latter is why it took me so long to figure out)
