A small rant about how words mean things, apropos of current discourse:

"Zionism" means simply "Jewish nationalism." The idea, unthinkable for centuries, that Jews are a people, like any other, like the French, the Irish, the Sri Lankans, equal in dignity and the right to self-governance.

Zionism does NOT mean hatred of non-Jews, any more than "Black lives matter" means, other lives don't. It doesn't imply approval of all policies of the state of Israel or all warfare conducted by that country. Most of all, it does not mean some kind of imperialist aspiration. Israel, a country of 10 million people with no natural resources to speak of, is not trying to build an empire. You can tell that by how, despite military superiority, it has not attempted to conquer its neighbours. Not even after said neighbours tried to destroy it repeatedly.

So when you say things like down with Zionism or call yourself anti-Zionist, what I hear--because words mean things--is "fuck the Jews, they don't deserve a country, no matter how well they do or don't conduct it, simply having a country at all is too good for them. Kill all the Jews now living in Israel, or exile them again and leave them and all the other Jews in the world once again without backup next time the Russians, Poles, Belgians or KKK or whoever start to conduct pogroms." That's what "anti-Zionist" means. And there are and always have been a lot of people who believe in that. So it's not unreasonable of me to think you're one of them if you use that word.

If you don't want me hearing that, find another way to say whatever it is you do mean.

Another thing: "genocide" means, according to a Google search, "the deliberate killing or severe mistreatment of a large number of people from a particular national or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group" The part between the asterisks there is important: genocide does NOT mean, killing a large number of people, full stop. It is not a synonym for "war."

My son was born at 1:30 a.m. on November 5.

We set the clocks back last night at 2:00 a.m.

That means we went through the hour of 1:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. twice.

That means we had his exact birth time twice today.

So he has a double birthday today, right?

Holy shit, the local paper has reported about suspicious powder sent to the local shuls on Friday. what they don't report is the pipe bombs as well.

My disability came in at 2 am. and my landlord emptied my bank account.

Why? they claim the SHA hasn't paid them in two months, Which from my end I can clearly see SHA did indeed pay its portion.

and they are telling me to 'take it up with SHE'

uhhh.... I don't get to eat this month or feed my kid, WTF?!?

There is only one challenge I am facing, the in person part. but everything else. yup.

I am homebound and immunocompromised (which is why I don't get to actually attend shul) so in-person is a challenge, but yeah called my bank as soon as I found out. they need to "confirm it actually was a fraudulent charge with the property manager" :(

I guess banks don't trust their customers anymore.

And I have already set up a secondary acct, but the Social Security website is shutdown for the weekend now, so I cant update it till monday.

Well fuck, yestreday I work up to find

My shabbos candles are gone, my kiddush cup, my havdallah set, my shtender, my sidur, all my mussar texts, all of my talis katan, and kippot, benchers, all my chasidic texts. everything...

I'm glad I keep my tzaydi's sidur hidden along with my tefillin and talis gadol.

all my judaica gone.

the candlesticks and the neronim glass, and my kiddush cup are irreplacable.

Asking someone why the fuck they came into my home and did this led to yet another fucking row.

Today boichik let me know he might be able to atleast recover my candlesticks, glass, and cup. he said his Eema felt she deserved them and that by all rights they belonged to her anyway. (did I mention he recovered the restraining pins to my shower chair? ok he stole them from her, but still)

as far as everything else he said she pitched them into a garbage skip. so recovering my havdalah set is a no go :(

I fucking hate my life.

looked into that yestreday and today after trying to get through shock and grief, technically we are still married, and so everything technically falls under shared property.

her argument is still that I (we) need to give up my (our) Judaism to keep our son safe. and one way, or another, whether or not I agree with her, she will make it happen as far as she is concerned.

And she still isn't willing to grant me a divorce, or take my offer of her having a Get.

So here I am hoping boichik can actually "require" my candlesticks and glass, and kiddush cup.

so, i am finally calm enough and my kid is calm enough for him the lay down. There was a drive-by shooting today that put his school on lockdown.

Yes people were shot and had to go to Harborview.
