I've got some news for Microsoft about how domestic abuse works.

@skry they're not, and people do, but nobody cares. anyway to be clear: browsers' password managers are totally insecure.

good options include bitwarden or keepassxc/keepassdx (the former is easier, and a good option if you dont want to invest energy on your password manager; latter is more tedious but is strictly offline which may be preferable)

Men who think that northern lights and rainbows are "too woke" and those who have appropriated Norse Paganism in an attempt to justify their racism and hate are suspiciously related.

@alda wait what? is that a thing??

Hmm… I would say… this is not a very good error message.

xyhhx,
@xyhhx@nso.group avatar

@jplebreton @mcc sorry if this comes off as "ackshually" but all of those have mechanisms fot what you want:

  • signal has chat backups, which you can opt for a shared folder/drive (cloud, syncthing, whatever)
  • element lets you backup room e2e keys, and recommends putting your security key somewhere safe (not on the same device)
  • most reputable crypto wallets have a seed phrase to generate/recover your assets, and also recommend keeping that in a safe separate place

@mcc i'm assuming you aren't on desktop?

xyhhx,
@xyhhx@nso.group avatar

@mcc element x is the new matrix app that's supposed to replace element:
https://element.io/labs/element-x

on the usual element for android:
tap your avatar, tap the cog, go to security & privacy, then export e2e room keys

you can use syncthing or your usb to transfer to your laptop

web a11y question!

is there a way to say that an aria-label's on an element value is based on the value of another attribute on the same element?

xyhhx,
@xyhhx@nso.group avatar

@yatil good point. for context i'm working on a PR for desec.io for a11y, and they mention adding aria-label to every button, but i think this is reflexive (maybe due to eslint a11y rules)

@kaia it's been working quite well for me. since it needs a lot of insecure privileges, run it on it's own vm tho

@ErikJonker@mastodon.social avatar

I learned that one of the advantages of cloudcomputing is the more efficient use of resources. On a shared infrastructure you don't need the maximum amount of compute and memory all the time so you can share. In this blog they looked at how efficient kubernetes clusters worked. The outcomes are terrible. Massive overprovisioning of compute and memory.

xyhhx,
@xyhhx@nso.group avatar

@ErikJonker how much of this is kubernetes' fault and not just skill issue?

i'm a software developer primarily but am working on pivoting into ops and security, and a foss advocate regardless

my favourite operating systems are qubes os, grapheneos, talos linux, and alpine linux

i really like self-hosting, and i mod/admin a few relevant rooms on matrix about them.

i regret to admit my strongest language is javascript, but maybe one day i'll pull up my big kid pants and learn rust or a functional lang
