Does anyone happen to know how claims or processes are handled with ? I'd imagine that each instance must have their own policies, based on the locale they're hosted in, but curious to know if there's any standard in place for this.

With the way Spez keeps trying to gamify Reddit, it's starting to feel like he's trying to make a super corporate remake of OMGPop/I'm In Like With You, for those who happen to remember that short-lived social/gaming platform. The addition of all sorts of new currencies on Reddit and stupid things to spend them on, and the more interactive things they've been doing like leaning more heavily into /r/place, all make me suspect that they're going to try to make Reddit into a sort of gaming hub with a vague social media aspect to it.

I wanted OMGPop to make a comeback, but this isn't how I wanted it. :(

I feel like the reason , and the at large, aren't taking off has to do with the fact that they're actually social networks. People don't seem to want a social network, they want content platforms. People aren't using or or to keep up with their friends these days, they're using these apps to entertain themselves. And since and every other platform that used to be a social network began pivoting toward content promotion, I think society has forgotten what a social network is supposed to actually be anymore.

@Chozo the only point I disagree with is that people don't want a social media platform anymore. I think they do, I just think they have forgotten that's what social media is for. Considering there is zero advertising for this platform and a technical set up, the growth and daily activity of it is pretty impressive and hasn't slowed in months.

I've met more interesting people in 8 months here than I did 12 years on twitter. I hope others get a chance to see that value.

@Chozo I wonder if this bodes well for Kbin/Lemmy? Arguably their model is more about content than social relationships.

I'm 99.99% certain that only renamed to #X because he knows that a lot of people are blocking the names of him and his companies from their social/news feeds because they're sick of hearing about him all the time. And it's hard to filter out "X" without also taking out a lot of other content from your feed. He did this just to ensure that you never forget about him.

I just got logged out. Logged back in, and found a freshly-upgraded magazine search. Sick!

Is anyone else unable to view /m/kbinmeta/newest? It's throwing me the "We are working on resolving the issues" error. Not sure if it's related to the stability issues I've been seeing today or not. But I can view /newest in other magazines just fine, though.

Just trying to understand how the microblog function works in Kbin. When it asks to select a magazine to post to, is that basically the same as adding a hashtag to a toot as if I were posting on a Mastodon instance?

Also, if I post a microblog to a remote community (such as to a lemmy.world community), how does that show up on LemmyWorld? Also, how does that show up on a Mastodon instance?

chimay,

@Chozo it means that people subscribed to that magazine will see your post in their microblog feed.

in fact, the microblog contains :

  • the users you follow (from mastodon or others)
  • the magazines in your subscriptions

Hey there, I wasn't familiar with this community before, but looking around right now. Are posts here meant to be more in the essay format that I'm seeing so far? The longer-form discussion prompt seems like a really interesting idea, if that's what this is all about.

Late reply, but yes!

What does the name "/kbin" actually mean? I've looked around the About page and the project site, but couldn't find any explanation.

@Chozo
It's a play on /sbin from linux and the Polish karabin rifle (hence the use of 'magazines' for our subs/communities).

So ... essentially, it means nothing :-D

Thanks for that explanation, I appreciate it!

Reddit admins appear to be removing links to Lemmy instances posted in comments.I'm seeing quite a few "[Removed by Reddit]" comments in /r/RedditAlternatives this evening. Anybody else seeing their comments being manipulated by Reddit staff today?

l-rs,

@Chozo Huffman is really taking all the cues from his hero Musk. Halving the valuation, alienating loyal developers and a core set of users and stifling freedom of information on the internet.

lol theyโ€™re fucking terrified. Internally, they know they screwed the pooch.

Too bad though, the news is all over the internet.
