Listen to yourself. You don’t even know the difference between plain old name calling and actual bigotry.

“Nazi” or even “pedophile” is not the same as calling a trans woman a man for the same reason that it’s not the same as calling a gay man a f- or a black man a n-. When you insult someone for an innate quality about themselves that harms no one, you’re a bigot. It’s really that simple and it’s sad that you don’t understand that.

RE: Is Ernest still here?

I check in here quite often, but for now, I'm just focusing on clearing spam and keeping the instance alive. In January, I was working on the AP module, and there has been significant progress in the work, which hasn't been publicly published yet. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, I developed a skin condition that...

Ah yes, the executive director for the center for the study of capitalism says young folks want capitalism.

The colonies we had were far better treated than most colonies of the era, or ever to be honest.

No need to read any further. It's one thing to be ignorant of a subject, no one knows everything, but it is another all together to be wilfully ignorant and also so confidently incorrect about it, especially after admitting you know nothing about it.
I'm sure at least a couple of people will have the time and patience to spoon feed you information that is readily available all around you to, at the very least, refute this bullshit, though I doubt you'll be open to hearing what they have to say, so I honestly don't know why you're wasting not only your own time, but that of anyone who would try to actually educate you, too..

Hello @kersploosh,

Could you please have a look at how the community is managed? The behaviour of the new moderation seems concerning and opposed to the will of the community.

Long story short, the new mod

  • launched a poll run to change the community to FOSS only
  • they only let that poll run only for 20 hours before closing it, deleting the post and changing the name and rules of the community
  • once called out about this, they reinstated the poll, but refused to take into account that on several instances (including LW) the poll results were actually to keep the community for both FOSS and non FOSS clients
  • the new moderator dismisses our requests to come back to the previous status (as the poll indicated)

Waymo issued a recall after two robotaxis crashed into the same pickup truck (www.engadget.com)

Last year, two Waymo robotaxis in Phoenix “made contact” with the same pickup truck that was in the midst of being towed, which prompted the Alphabet subsidiary to issue a recall on its vehicles’ software. A “recall” in this case meant rolling out a software update after investigating the issue and determining its root...

I wasn't asking about the car's logic algorithm; we all know that the SDC made an error, since it [checks notes] hit another car. We already know it didn't do the correct thing. I was asking how else you think the developers should be working on the software other than one thing at a time. That seemed like a weird criticism.

harry potter is the trio and the fandom not the author

The Linux kernel is actually a perfect example of this.

It’s worked on by hundreds of companies, and the bulk of the work is done by a small number of megacorps.

If it was worked on by a group of volunteers doing bits whenever they had spare time, it’d be in a much less useful state right now.

You’re seriously underestimating how large and complex web engines are. There’s a reason we’re down to 3 engines and the community hasn’t been able to create one.

It’s hard to do. It requires hundreds of millions a year to keep going.

If it were genuinely so trivial to maintain a browser engine, more would be doing it. Even easier, Firefox forks could take over maintaining the engine, as opposed to just tweaking the browser (not even having to work from scratch with a new engine). But they don’t, for the reasons I’ve already mentioned.

Innovation is dead. In its place, companies just add internet connectivity and voice control in places it’s absolutely not needed so they can pretend extracting data and profit is the same as progress. No one needs a “smart” bidet.

    Lemmy.world Should Defederate with Threads

I think it’s pretty safe to say that the majority of us are here to avoid another corporate takeover of our preferred platforms. It would seem to me to be a tad irresponsible to allow Facebook into our space with open arms, allowing them to hoover up our data. I would love to keep using Lemmy.world, but will happily change...

    infinitepcg,

I’m in favor of federation. The point of federated networks isn’t that there are no evil corporations, but rather that they can’t cause damage.

    What Facebook can do:

    • read your public data (they can do this wether anyone federates with them or not)
    • let their users publish content to other Fediverse users

    What they can’t do:

    • serve you ads
    • serve you an algorithmic feed
    • impose their ToS or rules
    • collect data for analytics/tracking/marketing
    • force you to use a certain client
    • make changes to the protocol or design

I think this is mostly relevant for Mastodon servers due to the format of the content, but the arguments are the same.

I think that fully integrating into Flipboard's backend is going to be one of the best things we've done since we started the company.

    There are three phases:

Phase 1 (Today): Federate 25 accounts to test and learn

Phase 2 (January): Enable anyone in the Fediverse to engage with any public curator on Flipboard

Phase 3 (April): Enable anyone on Flipboard to follow and engage with any public account in the

Okay , let’s get something straight. We are all grown ups here (hopefully) and can make choices for ourselves. We alive in a society that allows us the freedom to choose for ourselves what to do.

Why would you allow or want to be part of an instance where they choose for you who or what to block? I understand that there are BAD people on , just as there are on EVERY platform on the internet.

Give the regular people on each platform a chance to been seen.
