If it were up to me, I would see the Republican party dismantled. Were I a member, I would vote for it's dissolution. But thing is, they can nominate whoever they like, including a fascist psychopath. That he's second most likely to win is a direct result of GOP and DNC collusion.

2 Charged After Pouring Red Powder Over Case Holding U.S. Constitution | Two activists poured the powder over the protective case to call attention to climate change (www.nytimes.com)

The Constitution was not damaged, according to the National Archives Museum, which said that the powder was found to be a combination of pigment and cornstarch.

he was ordered by a judge to stay away from Washington and its museums and public monuments, prosecutors said.

Speaking of the Constitution, barring someone from an entire CITY seems to be rather outside of the spirit of the document itself.

Copilot misses the question, elaborates on topic I was speaking aloud instead. (lemmy.world)

Was using my SO’s laptop, I had been talking (not searching, or otherwise typing) about some VPN solutions for my homelab, and had the curiosity to use the new big copilot button and ask what it can do. The beginning of this context was actually me asking if it can turn off my computer for me (it cannot) and I ask this....

This may not have been an instance of it spying on you; what can you do may be similar to other searches involving privacy, but one would do well to remember thst companies have been repeatedly caught spying on users.

I'm sharing to say that whether this is an instance of spying or weird coincidence, you should absolutely assume that companies will violate your privacy at every opportunity because that's what they've done.

Interesting take, but such an absolutist stance suggests that you also see compassion as a weakness. Fact is, as evil as the GOP may now be... they are not the whole of conservative thought.

If you want to see an example of where your desired approach leads, look at post WW I Germany and what Europe's need for vengeance gave birth to.

Tumblr and Wordpress to Sell Users’ Data to Train AI Tools (www.404media.co)

this could not be timed worse for Tumblr which is in huge hot water with its userbase already for its CEO breaking his sabbatical to ban a prominent trans user for allegedly threatening him (in a cartoonish manner), and then spending a week personally justifying it increasingly wildly across several platforms. the rumors had...

Yes, I recall when they had a policy of never allowing account deletion.

I get that, I do. But having to issue physical copies is probably the most inconvenient and expensive option for the corps causing issues.

If they keep this shit up, plenty of people will be taking the step to turning them into a historical footnote. Expecting the service you've paid for, without interruption, is not a difficult ask.

Except apparently for Proton, it is.

Last I checked, the former was still an issue.

The latter, I have not tried because its easier to just use OVPN and avoid thd app and its potential issues. Regardless, Proton left paying clients with two fundamentally broken apps for months to years.

Edit: The issues with the mail client persist.

Shades of Clinton's "Russian plant" slander v. Gabbard, perhaps?

Back in the paper spam days, some folk would stuff the "postage paid" envelopes with junk and mail them back to troll the companies. Setting up a junk address with an autoresponder would be pleasing, but probably would get tagged illegal.

I like women but I also like cock but I'm not otherwise attracted to the male body at all. Wtf is my sexual orientation? AITA?

I like women. I like the shape and curves of the female body. I like boobs, I like asses, I like pretty vaginas. I also appreciate and am aroused by a nice cock. I’m however not otherwise attracted to the male body. I like femboys as long as they have a feminine-like shape and curves, as many of them do....

Where are the good political songs? (piped.video)

I feel like there are lots of parallels between the eighties and now (recession/inflation, yuppies/inequality, skin-heads/fascists, hot-cold wars etc.) but there used to be protest music! Where is that stuff now? Music that’s intelligent and outraged - like we should be!...

Diotima,
Diotima avatar

Given that Tiktok is a corporation with likely ties to a government that is not particularly fond of protest, perhaps it is not the best place to find protest music. Having said that, Muse continues to make protest music as they always have. I suppose the problem is that protest music doesn't often get included on music platforms, leaving us with a sanitized version of the musical landscape.

Thanks! When time permits, I'll tweak it for neighboring regions.

Can someone explain to me why Honkai: Star Rail is treated as something other than trash? I keep seeing posts about it, all over.

It’s a free-to-play mobile gacha game. Therefore, it is trash. That point simply cannot be argued. It’s not up for debate. If you’re here to debate that point, please don’t even bother. All mobile games are trash. All free-to-play games are trash. All gacha games are trash. Again: there is no debate about that....

Dude really just needs to step away from the drugs, I think.

Diotima,

So a guy registered on lemmynsfw, an instance whose users have been known to post exploitative pictures, is bitching about... gacha games. Oh wow. Wow.

Diotima,
Diotima avatar

Are you just... angry it lacks anime tiddys or something? Maybe someone can point you toward a more suitable gacha game, then.

Diotima,
Diotima avatar

Funny story, my partner sent me a gacha game and I have yet to spend a dime. I play for maybe 20 minutes a week. If someone is unable to control their spending on make-believe prizes, then they have underlying issues they need to work out.

Your assertion that gacha = slavery is about the most ridiculous thing I've read all day, and I had to open Twitter.

Did you wake up hangry or something? Your comments are... special.

Diotima,

We can solve a good deal of the issue by enforcing labor laws against exploitative companies and making it easier to immigrate to work. Shameful that Democrats and Republicans are more or less on the same page when it comes to immigration policy.

To measure 100 miles, assuming your 120 foot measurement and assuming that game mechanics = in-world logic, you'd need to cast your spell 4400 times per 100 miles, moving at a glacial pace as you measured. You'd also need to ensure that your path was perfectly straight, you accounted for elevation changes, that you precisely marked each endpoint, etc etc etc.

If you're seeking accuracy, measuring the outside of a 200mi x200mi square would require doing all those calculations across 35,200 castings. If you were measuring the internal dimensions to about a one mile accuracy, you'd be in the millions of castings and you'd still need to ensure you accounted for all of the above.

Regardless, we know that it doesn't work that way because FR sourcebooks tell us that maps are inaccurate, rare, and expensive. We know that the maps are inaccurate because they've told us so!

Then they need to pick a candidate who will appeal to a broader base of voters. This idea that Biden, a neoconservative only appealing because Trump is batshit crazy, is "owed" the candidacy is lunacy. If the priority is defeating Trump, then they need to select someone who can succeed with a healthy margin, not a candidate who has lost enough of his swing voters to make his victory extremely questionable.

Reality? Democrats... or at least the DNC... feel that they are "owed" those votes. Every time they lose, they blame third parties, voters who abstain, sun spots, dark sorcery.... anything that will allow them to avoid introspection. It's time they took responsibility, listened to the people who could actually win them this election.

Diotima,
Diotima avatar

Is that what we're calling the extremely undemocratic process of nomination in the DNC? We do not select our candidates, the party elites do.

Diotima,
Diotima avatar

He's polling neck and neck with Trump, some polls have him trailing in key states. It's early, granted, but his support of Israel's approach to Palestine suggests that many progressives are at best uncomfortable with him.

Primaries are still coming up, no? Why not push for someone better? You still end up in the same place if you're unsuccessful.

Diotima,
Diotima avatar

I'm registered independent so I don't get a say. I can dig into the options, but last time I might have been onboard with Yang; he seemed sincere. Sanders, though he has issues, would have been a much better choice as well.

If the party elite are blocking meaningful representation within, that's a problem.
