I started Hyperion by Dan Simmons last week and it has been a bit of a slog to get into it. The world building is fantastic, the scifi concepts are next level, but the way the writing style changes during each characters recounting of their time on Hyperion is disorienting and takes a while to get back up to reading it at a normal speed if that makes sense. I'd recommend it to any true scifi fan at this point, but my opinion is still in limbo on whether I like it... I'll let y'all know later.
I had to take a break from it and read the second Murderbot novella Artificial Condition, which was an excellent distraction. :)
Personally, I don’t get it. Foot rub sounds nice, but like not THAT nice. But I posted on a dermatology sub once and my DM’s blew up asking my gender. Just from dudes though. Are there some women who are perhaps more quietly excited by feet though? Random thought as I sit here grinding off my cracked heels…
I'm confused, I didn't think foot fetish was common among men either? There is definitely a niche for everyone on the internet, but I was not aware that it was a common place interest.
Specifically food tastes?
I need food with lots of spices now. When I was younger I wanted the most bland foods, now I crave those strong spices like cayenne, cumin, pepper, fresh basil, and fresh garlic.
Lifestyle tastes?
I like to keep my social circle and setting small now. Like 5 total. That's enough.
I also like to do solo hobbies now with quiet reflection or listening to podcasts instead of music...
Most of the communities I'm interested in are on lemmy.world, programming.dev, etc where they have a large activity there, but the UI/UX of kbin is what's holding me here....
I've noticed that some communities will be in sync and up to date with the /kbin magazine, but some are hours, even weeks, behind and I don't know what the difference is. This discrepancy is present even on the same instance like lemmynsfw, where one community is up to date, but another community hasn't synced in weeks.

My only problem with picking up Apple TV for scifi is that all these shows are in their infancy. Most are only 1 season, and that hardly feels like enough motivation to start the show knowing there could just never be a second season. Netflix burned me with good shows getting cancelled and I can't motivate myself to start something with less than 2 seasons.
Ehhhh, they left several loose threads dangling in the wind...
There is a whole book about the planet with the fauna that brings organic tissue back to life. They just shut the door and called it a day.
Also, they barely touched the storyline of mass being lost with gate use.
They would have to pick up the pace a lot.
It might be a few seasons before they get there at this pace. The entire first season happens in the first few chapters of book 1...
I’ve found myself looking for a really good can opener. I purchased my last one, a KitchenAid, from Target and I’ve been disappointed in it the whole time. The same will happen with Relay for Reddit soon too. DBrady is still holding open the app, paying the costs for it, so that he can release a subscription model. I love Relay, but I (and I imagine others) won't pay a subscription for a stripped down version where majority of the $$$ goes to Reddit and not the developer... If he had an option to pay him directly I would consider it though.
Savannah is beautiful. We visited a couple years ago while staying on Tybee Island for vacation. The city park with all the huge trees and Spanish moss was incredible. The weather was perfect and we just walked around town all day hitting bars, shops, and taking pictures. 9/10

hmm, I guess I'm wrong. I read about helium-3 a long time ago and I must have mistaken the purpose. I guess helium-3 is a byproduct of fission and can be used for fusion, but the energy cost to produce it in this manner is massive and isn't sustainable.
Helium-3 is filtered out by the atmosphere so very little of it occurs naturally on earth, the lunar surface was the best/easiest place to mine for it.

Perfect! I wasn't aware you were hoping to make these projects core code, but that makes sense! I would love for them to become part of the core software.

18+ Ladies of Lemmy, how common is it for women to have foot fetishes like some men do?

What are some examples of your tastes changing as you got older?
I’ve started to really like just mustard and sauerkraut on my hotdogs and racing games over FPS because they’re a little slower paced.
Would dinosaurs be white meat or red meat?
Could you eat one tartare?

Do you have a favorite film scene that you come back to again and again?
For me, it has to be this, the final scene from Stanley Kubrick's "Paths Of Glory".
