I started Hyperion by Dan Simmons last week and it has been a bit of a slog to get into it. The world building is fantastic, the scifi concepts are next level, but the way the writing style changes during each characters recounting of their time on Hyperion is disorienting and takes a while to get back up to reading it at a normal speed if that makes sense. I'd recommend it to any true scifi fan at this point, but my opinion is still in limbo on whether I like it... I'll let y'all know later.

I had to take a break from it and read the second Murderbot novella Artificial Condition, which was an excellent distraction. :)

18+ Ladies of Lemmy, how common is it for women to have foot fetishes like some men do?

Personally, I don’t get it. Foot rub sounds nice, but like not THAT nice. But I posted on a dermatology sub once and my DM’s blew up asking my gender. Just from dudes though. Are there some women who are perhaps more quietly excited by feet though? Random thought as I sit here grinding off my cracked heels…

I'm confused, I didn't think foot fetish was common among men either? There is definitely a niche for everyone on the internet, but I was not aware that it was a common place interest.

So anyone can pay to manipulate content now, and not just people with big pockets? Neat. I think I'll just buy @ernest more coffee...

Specifically food tastes?
I need food with lots of spices now. When I was younger I wanted the most bland foods, now I crave those strong spices like cayenne, cumin, pepper, fresh basil, and fresh garlic.

Lifestyle tastes?
I like to keep my social circle and setting small now. Like 5 total. That's enough.
I also like to do solo hobbies now with quiet reflection or listening to podcasts instead of music...

Well, reptiles and avians are both considered white meat I believe, so probably white.

I've noticed that some communities will be in sync and up to date with the /kbin magazine, but some are hours, even weeks, behind and I don't know what the difference is. This discrepancy is present even on the same instance like lemmynsfw, where one community is up to date, but another community hasn't synced in weeks.

Communities: Just 196 and languages I don't understand.
Instances: exploding-heads (probably a couple more to follow)

I come back to the opening scene in The Newsroom all the time... It seems more and more relevant every time.

My only problem with picking up Apple TV for scifi is that all these shows are in their infancy. Most are only 1 season, and that hardly feels like enough motivation to start the show knowing there could just never be a second season. Netflix burned me with good shows getting cancelled and I can't motivate myself to start something with less than 2 seasons.

They also killed a main character for real life legal troubles. So that might be difficult to continue the cannon.

Ehhhh, they left several loose threads dangling in the wind...

There is a whole book about the planet with the fauna that brings organic tissue back to life. They just shut the door and called it a day.
Also, they barely touched the storyline of mass being lost with gate use.

They would have to pick up the pace a lot.
It might be a few seasons before they get there at this pace. The entire first season happens in the first few chapters of book 1...

Unfortunately, I don't think the US is entering this fight unless it's to regulate it in a way to make money with it.

Most recommended can opener?

I’ve found myself looking for a really good can opener. I purchased my last one, a KitchenAid, from Target and I’ve been disappointed in it the whole time. Sometimes it doesn’t puncture the lid right, and it feels like it got rusty kinda fast–not at all what I want out of a utensil I hoped would last for a decade or more...

I got one of these from pampered chef almost 20 years ago, and it is still used daily and in great shape.

Turn all that space into something useful instead of concrete.

None that I'm aware of, but please, don't let the lack of something here keep you from doing that.

Ugh it's hurts the eyes to even try. 😵‍💫

The same will happen with Relay for Reddit soon too. DBrady is still holding open the app, paying the costs for it, so that he can release a subscription model. I love Relay, but I (and I imagine others) won't pay a subscription for a stripped down version where majority of the $$$ goes to Reddit and not the developer... If he had an option to pay him directly I would consider it though.

Savannah is beautiful. We visited a couple years ago while staying on Tybee Island for vacation. The city park with all the huge trees and Spanish moss was incredible. The weather was perfect and we just walked around town all day hitting bars, shops, and taking pictures. 9/10

Absolutely WoW, but Path of Exile behind that with 1900 hours...

hmm, I guess I'm wrong. I read about helium-3 a long time ago and I must have mistaken the purpose. I guess helium-3 is a byproduct of fission and can be used for fusion, but the energy cost to produce it in this manner is massive and isn't sustainable.

Helium-3 is filtered out by the atmosphere so very little of it occurs naturally on earth, the lunar surface was the best/easiest place to mine for it.

Hi @Perry! I have two things to ask about.

  1. It seems like this script doesn't play well with KES. With both enabled, it removes the 'Search' Icon and puts it's functionality on the '+' icon. The old '+' functionality is applied to a duplicate 'Select a Channel' icon, and there is additional highlighted space added to the left of the bookmark icon.

  2. Would you consider integrating this script in with KES? It would be a fantastic addition.

Edit: Brave (chromium based browser) if that matters.

Oh, it does look like it's resolved now. 😁

Perfect! I wasn't aware you were hoping to make these projects core code, but that makes sense! I would love for them to become part of the core software.
