Personally, I see Revolt as more likely to win out if/when Discord collapses than Matrix. I've only heard Matrix discussed on platforms within the fediverse, whereas Revolt I've heard some rumblings about by others who haven't touched anything like Mastodon or Lemmy/Kbin in their lives.
Either way, I'd be glad to see more FOSS win out over yet capital controlled social media.
It's even more hilarious when the label is much more accurately applied to capital owners such as himself; they are the ones actually making money off of other people's labour via their ownership (of a company rather than land).
I wouldn't say to interview mods, unless they were directly in the centre of organising this, but they give almost no insight into what the broader reaction is outside of the comments of the CEO. They don't bother to peer into a few subreddits and see what discussion is like, nor mention any decrease in users, etc.; they just restate Spez's talking points as if he's the only thing relevant.
My ex from Norway mentioned how unusual it was that so many places and people here fly our flag (USA), so I was curious to hear what it's like for others here on the fediverse.
Yeah, it's not unheard of to see someone flying a flag here, but it's definitely not as common as in the US. It's still much more common here than other countries I've been to though.
Within the past year or two I've definitely started associating people flying Canadian flags on their houses/cars with a certain (unpleasant) type of person.
Convenience, short sightedness, and outright lies. Most won't directly be affected by Reddit's recent changes, so it's more convenient for them to just not care and continue using the site uninterrupted. For now, those money-hungry policies don't affect them much, so they'll just not care about it, until of course the ever growing hunger of capital requires more money, thus leading to more restrictive monetisation schemes (Twitter is considering limiting DMs without a subscription now, for example). And of course, you have people buying into the lies that that is the only way for sites like Reddit to exist, nevermind any alternatives (both to Reddit itself and within its monetisation plans).
For a sub that’s supposed to promote Reddit alternatives, there sure is a lot of pessimism on there. I see so many people dismissing Lemmy and kbin already for being too inaccessible, the UI is clunky, it’s hard to pick up etc and saying these sites will never take off. But why? Of course a platform in its infancy will have...
Agreed. While I am more favourable to platforms like Lemmy and Kbin on a more or less ideological level (I hate how the internet is essentially five companies in a trench coat at this point, all using user generated content and data for their own profits), Reddit as an experience isn't terrible enough for me to throw it away yet (or at least, these sites can't replicate what I'm looking for well enough to make me commit to jumping ship just yet).
I'm glad these platforms are getting a lot more attention, I'm glad to see them grow and mature (both in terms of userbase, but as well as functionality), and I want them to succeed. However, once the dust from the blackout has settled (most of the subs I normally visited are still private, which I fully support), I will probably jump back to Reddit until the restless march towards enshitification strikes once again, and I leave the platform more or less for good (with these platforms at the top of the list of alternatives for me to return to).
The reddit blackout is even more effectivte than expected! 5177/8829 (~60%) of subreddits are still dark [1] and the posts per minute are down to 1000 from 1400 [2]....
The few I've seen that have promoted alternatives usually just say something like "lemmy," or provide a whole host of alternatives, resulting in a wide spread across platforms for the few that do migrate.
Right now moderator, subscriber, etc. data for stuff from different platforms and instances is broken on kbin, usually just displaying ernest as the owner of anything from a different instance.
I'm honestly surprised how quickly discord has gone to shit vs. how long everyone I know was using stuff like Skype and TS beforehand.
I also hate how people try to use discord as a replacement for more traditional forums (including stuff like Reddit and kbin) instead of as just a chat and messaging platform. It sucks at it, please stop trying to make it work for that people.
Varies quite a bit, but currently listening to lots of Amon Amarth, Feuerschwanz, Rammstein, Zeal & Ardor, Iron Maiden, and Unleash the Archers.
Though this thread just reminded me that Arkona has a new album coming out soon, so I guess I'll be throwing some more of them on to get ready for that lol
So I think this is a good one for the patient gamers… I actually already played this soon after it came out and still really enjoyed it, although the world felt like it didn’t have any real people in it the city is just fantastic and visually appealing. I bought it day one on PC and it quickly became my favourite game of the year. The issues I experienced were mostly graphical (texture pop-in, t-posing NPCs), I only had to reload a save once to fix something. A Skyrim playthrough the same year had more game breaking issues lol
The branding for kbin is perfect for capturing the reddit migrators. The biggest friction point for the Fediverse is choosing an instance. If I want to join Lemmy, googling Lemmy takes me to a landing page with no join button, telling me to go to these other sites. Some of these sites even actively discourage signups, creating...
You will have two different accounts: one on fedia.io, the other on kbin.social. On fedia, logged in via your fedia account, you will be able to interact with content federated from kbin.social as if it were on fedia, and you will be displayed as coming from fedia (if you hover over someone's name it shows their full tag, including the server they're on. In this case I'm @Melon_Cooler). You can switch to your account on kbin.social, but it is fundamentally a different account from the one on fedia, and will give the same functionality, however you'll be native to kbin.social, and content you see from other servers (i.e. fedia) will be federated into kbin.social.
New migrants please be patient. This is a lot like Nov 2022. It will be choppy, but get sorted out. This is another golden opportunity to break down corporate social media.

@Rayspekt Nov 2022 was when there was a large influx of Twitter users to Mastodon after Musk bought the platform. Hundreds of thousands of new users in a short span tends to cause some chaos on the platform
Though the Mass Effect series is full of interesting characters, it's widely accepted that Tali is the best of Shepard's companions. She is also the best romance option hands down. I have played Mass Effect several times and I always romance her. Regardless of whether I'm renegade or paragon. I even installed a mod to romance...
Yeah, Tali and Legion are the best choices for the vents, but towards the final fight she and Mordin are high in the priority list to die if left to hold the line and you don't have a strong enough defence. I made that mistake on my first playthrough of ME2, taking Garrus and Tali to the final fight (taking one of the strongest defending characters from the defence), thus Mordin died at the end. That involved a reload and a replay of that mission so I could have him in ME3 lol
