We probably don't agree.
I probably said something you didn't like.
You look lovely, by the way. New shirt?

I hate how long it took me to realize this was an Onion article.

I'll legitimately be moving to Linux today. This just broke the camel's back for me.

Onii-Chan,

I'm never sure when it comes to America, but I'd love to move there. Like us Aussies with dropbears and Americans, I was totally convinced by your post haha.

I've always wanted to visit a Bucky's! We've got nothing like it here, so it'd be a genuine experience.

"You're not sad. Now consume, peasants. Consume and never stop. You don't WANT to be sad, do you?"

No shit, I saw fucking Afterpay available for petrol at the pump the other week. I'm Australian, so I'm unsure if this 'buy now, pay later' shit is available for gas over in the States, but it was certainly a shock to see here.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

ngl the fact you can buy alcohol and ammunition at the gas station over there is making me jealous af. We legally have to have entire separate stores for those things, no exaggeration.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

It's wild how different the refueling process is between our countries. Paying at the pump was trialed here about 10 years ago, but next to nobody used it. We just rock up to the servo, pump our fuel, then walk inside to pay. I can't see it changing anytime soon. Some rural, more crime-ridden areas require pre-pay, as well as a few locations in urban areas between 11pm and 5am, but even then, you still walk inside or up to a window on the actual building to pay.

My sense of smell still sucks, and it's been almost two years since I had COVID. It's marginally better than it was, but is still substantially worse than it was pre-infection.

EDIT: Okay, this is a bit of an exaggeration. My sense of smell has mostly returned, but for example, nuances in the taste of food seem to have become permanently dulled, and it sucks tbh. Something, as subtle as it is, has changed.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

Aunts. We're just a lot more posh over here in Adelaide.

Onii-Chan,

This is one of the most incredible things I've ever seen. The complexity of life just continues to astound me.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

Came here to post EveryNoise. Absolutely incredible site that just fucking WORKS. Can't believe I went as long as I did without knowing about it.

Onii-Chan,

I've always been able to smell them. I can't believe there are people out there who can't. My world has been rocked.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

For me it's usually only after they've died. They have this bitter, extremely unpleasant acidic smell to them.

Can't be more ridiculous than it is here in Australia. Can't buy or set off fireworks without the relevant permit/license full stop (generally limited to public events and film production), but if you purchase an adapter for your 12 gauge, along with a pack of primers, you can legally fire them from your shotgun on private property... but you'd obviously need a firearms license first.

I have a shotgun. I have the fireworks, primers, and adapter. I have never had a chance to use them.

Australia is such a fucking boring country to live in. No wonder we all drink so much.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

While the general ban on fireworks makes sense in a country as dry as ours, it's just tiring seeing the rest of the world get to enjoy yet another thing we miss out on here. Airsoft, fireworks, cheaper alcohol, cheaper fuel, economic complexity, product variety, modern internet infrastructure, logical speed limit tolerances, drinking on the beach (legitimately illegal in fucking Australia), the right to not be treated like a goddamn child by the government, no blanket bans/sweeping law reforms based on the actions of one person, nicotine vaping not requiring a doctor's prescription, over the counter medications that actually work and aren't just weak and ineffective versions the rest of the world can purchase, and just so much more.

You just never know when something you enjoy will be banned, restricted, or taxed to death in this country, and I hate it more and more the older I get. Australia is a great country to live in if you're 77 and retired. Our leaders are wondering why so many young people are leaving for better, more free countries... maybe the fact that we're the most overregulated nanny state, Murdoch-controlled, American-without-any-of-the-fun-parts wannabe first world nation has something to do with it. If I wasn't already in my early-30's, I'd be leaving too.

What, like Pandora, Spotify, etc is out there that I could add music I have on my phone/etc?

I’ve been using one of the Pandora services, but I’ve been getting a little annoyed with the stations (which I presume I would get the same annoyance from other services, too). So I’d like to be able to create a station and add songs that I own and that wouldn’t normally be in that station. (And I know you can add...

Innertune. It hooks into YouTube music without any ads, no account creation required, offline listening, and it's free. One of the best apps on my phone.

Toyota really weren't fucking around with the Crown Hybrids back then. They threw everything into them. It also has soft close doors and trunk, TV/DVD, factory Bluetooth audio, heated/cooled front and rear seats, reclining rear seats, lane keep assist, night vision front and fender/rear cameras, keyless everything, and a heap more.

I fucking love the Toyota Crown.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

I drive a 2009 Crown Hybrid. It's fast, it's reliable, it's great on fuel, it's luxurious, the build quality is extremely high, and on top of that, it didn't cost much. I can't see what a new car could offer me other than touchscreens, mandatory data collection, and a heap of tech I'll never use more than once. Mine has radar cruise, that's as advanced as I need a feature to be tbh

Using Lemmy make me hate Windows (or any proprietary softwares) and finally make me fully switched to Linux

Just like migrating from Reddit to Lemmy it’s the same as migrating from Windows to Linux, there’s shortcomings and learning curve and the more I use Lemmy the more I hate about Windows, because unlike reddit Lemmy is open source and open source softwares communities is more popular than proprietary communities and people...

Not OP, but I went with PopOS. I'd used it in a VM for a few years, so I decided to install it when I finally decided to make the switch after Microsoft revealed that dystopian "record everything on your screen, coming to a PC near you soon" bullshit.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

I did the same the other day, although I'm dual booting as I still need Windows for a few things (namely Photoshop.) Slowly getting used to Linux though, and it does feel... free. It's extremely nice. Games run better (I mean fuck, the entire computer runs better.) I already use GrapheneOS on my Pixel 8, so it's nice to have my PC finally move towards privacy too.

Onii-Chan,

It really is a race to the bottom with this 'growth at any cost' bullshit. Infinite growth is unsustainable and it WILL eventually collapse. We desperately need another video game crash.

Onii-Chan,

Don't do this, Netflix. Happy Gilmore is sacred ground.

Massive issues with sleep and desperate for a solution.

I’ve been struggling with sleep issues for over a decade now. My Doctor has prescribed me all sorts of medication, all of which has had many adverse side effects. What I do know that works, is Xanax. My wife was prescribed it for some stress issues and occasionally will give me one so I can finally sleep. Obviously asking my...

Magnesium threonate cured my insomnia, it's fucking wild how well it works. I'd tried everything until I discovered it, from melatonin, to antihistamine sleeping pills, all the way to downing 350ml of whiskey every night just to force sleep.

Magnesium works better than every single thing I've tried (but you HAVE to let yourself fall asleep when you feel it starting to work.)

why are incels frowned/hated upon?

Obviously I can understand why mysoginists are hated upon, As their belief is all women are trash or men are superior etc. But why are incels also generally hated upon? They are lacking in a way that makes them unable to gey in a relationship, but that shouldn’t necessarily mean they are mysoginists, right?...

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

Exactly. The issue with incels is that they actively do nothing to improve their chances in the dating world, and then instead of looking inward, blame women for their own shortcomings. "I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and big butt and my butt smells and... women should still want to fuck me because I'm owed sex."

Fuck these people.

Onii-Chan,
Onii-Chan avatar

This is exactly why I use Proton as well. I'm not worried about law enforcement, I just want Google and other big tech's tentacles out of my fucking business. I don't want to be advertised to.

Goddamn, you fucking killed him dude.
