This is a good point too. I saw some many that I'd like to follow that didn't even have a Welcome thread so, to the idea that some are just name grabbing as well and hoping it'll be useful one day.

Part of the federation is multiple kbin or lemmy instances can all have /popularnamehere and than can federate to to the other. Plus /technology on kbin could be wildly popular while another may not be. Or both are going strong, but folks like more responsive in one instance than another.

I'm working through the selfhost install now! we'll see how it goes and works. I asked them yesterday about their app support for mobile and custom domains. iOS is supported and they are working on adding that support for Android.

Looks that way! I am getting an error on the elastic search container though.

Starting omnivore-elastic ...
omnivore-redis is up-to-date
Starting omnivore-elastic ... done

ERROR: for migrate Container "cb29db590585" is unhealthy.
ERROR: Encountered errors while bringing up the project.

That is how the federation works! Also can see posts on other platforms like Mastodon, calckey, plerma. Enjoy!

kbin uses the @username style. So replace the ! with @ and search again. Same for usernames and communities/magazines

There could also be /m/Technology on every kbin, lemmy instance as well. Now if the mods from Reddit are moving over I could see that as more “official”.

That’s also what makes the fediverse options great, they each can be used together and separate giving users a wider use case of one instance over another. If they like the community in one but not another. Or if one community leaves the whole thing is not gone.

One note too on the “unofficial” list is the way each platform recognizes and is searchable for them is different on each platform. Be aware if you “can’t find it” using the way the community name is listed.

This is cool! I just got FreshRSS installed yesterday. Still have time to change if I want to. I'll keep this in mind.

Transferring domains on your own is a process…. Wonder how much harder it will be moving registration and user accounts, dns, Whois, name servers, etc. hopefully it’s easier for the users too and don’t get stuck in migration limbo.

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

That does present a poor user experience, but also seems like a quick decision too.

I use namecheap for the registration and Cloudflare for the DNS. Pretty easy setup and support as well. The SSL is great as I get a free SSL wildcard and can use that for other origin and edge certificates as well.

You pay for the transfer basically and keep the current registration time + 1 year. But ICANN only allows transfers within certain time windows of age of the domain, before/after registration, and such as well... but could be easier now to get out of Google and locked into a mess later.

That's cool, you can reply to a #kbin thread from #Mastodon and it show's up as a reply to the thread. I was also able to reply to a microblog as well as a comment to the kbin, but it showed up as a new post on the microblog of kbin.

Still neat to see how these platforms federate together!

@zyphel

For explaining too, replying from kbin now. The conversation is thread like on kbin where mastodon is a continuous running line where some conversations that branch may be hard to see.

I took a look at this real quick too How to Set Up Docker Containers in Proxmox. With Proxmox you're already creating a container and vm object but from this guide, you're installing Ubuntu then installing docker on top of that for containers. So I dont think nesting containers on containers is a good idea either.

This forum post on proxmox's site seems to show how you can run docker in 3 options: run Docker in VM, run Docker in LXC, or run Docker directly on the PVE node.

The other point of concern is moving the docker images to a new host. Also if moving away from docker to their own LXC migrating the data and re-establishing your network of apps.

I would feel that would be what the federation section would be used for as well

I would think the best course to block a magazine would be on the magazine itself, or like in your screenshot maybe have block options under "more" to prevent accidental clicks. Or add some more whitespace between the title of the magazine and the block option.

Im not sure it does anything quite yet, as kbin is in early alpha really. As nothing also shows up for Instances either.

Hey Laage! Nice to see you here too! Powershell was done right and only improved since the 'ol command prompt. Once you realize everything mostly in Powershell is an object, it makes things easier too. Powershell 7 took it to the next level too. When managing Windows or MS environments, it's really the best tool to do so.

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

It's nice when you can have the system do the work for you as well, and automate what you can too.

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

Writing a Powershell module is not something I've done yet. I think once I attempted, but with what I was doing the one simple function or script did what I needed. Got any tips or resources?

Cryptomator is a great tool for creating vaults and also putting that vault in a cloud storage location for syncing. I've been using it for a while now and its been great!
