I agree with them all being federated and being able to use them all. Since I started on kbin, I've been wanting to find groups on kbin and do follow and interact with other federated groups as well. Some of the Lemmy instances and communities seem to have taken off more. Most of what I see on kbin is Lemmy which is a little sad, but glad we can all "talk" together too.

I think the trick now is to help provide the Lemmy and kbin follow links.

How to access personal DNS setup through VPS+Reverse Proxy setup?

Hi, I was planning on the VPS+Reverse proxy setup instead of port-forwarding from my home address (basically, Wireguard VPN to VPS box which will host a reverse proxy, be hardened and only open necessary ports). I will be hosting Pi-Hole+Unbound at home, and would like to access it from outside. I do not want to share my DNS...

Cloudflare DNS proxied dns to be exact too. They also allow DNS only which is not routed through Cloudflare and the services.

[META] Creating a new community is easy, but to get people on board, you need to create some content.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave....

What is hard too, is if all the posts to get things started are the mods or creator, the same ghost town might occur. It’s hard to tell or know what will be interesting to get people talking so to speak. Some should also be put on the subscribers as well who also have an interest. It’s a double edge sword sometimes.

I read this as gedit like the text editor on gnome!

Might register before they get taken just in case!

I’ve started/modding

I saw that one too. I was looking to see how we could add the "related" magazines and federated sites together as well.

On lemmy searching for kbin magazines would probably be just like lemmy, but specifying the instance name.

So: !kbinmeta

On kbin if I’m looking for this community I’d search for @nostupidquestions and subscribe

Some favorites and good ones to watch

  • The Americans
  • The Office
  • White Collar
  • yellow stone
  • The Peripheral

It did have a pretty good storyline all the way through. There were some moments I thought could have been done slightly different but it’s still in a top 10 list when asked what is a favorite or watch again list.

I like how kbin in a way combines the thread feel of posts and the microblogging timeline of mastodon into one thing.

You can follow users from each platform as well and follow their posts as well.

Kbin is actually less than 6 months old on the public side and I’m sure mobile apps are on the forecast. I know there is an app in the works already too. Even lemmy is a little young in public use so any mobile apps are not as polished.

The apps being built are by others offering their time for the greater use of the fediverse.

cjerrington,

Absolutely! There’s a lot of community members and new ideas of things that should happen and. It as well. The federation between instances is what makes it new as well and there’s a lot of opinions as well.

cjerrington,

Saw on on mastodon you have the vote options and it was shared on kbin. Wonder how all the votes will get tallied…?

I was going to mention this as well. I went from Google, to Authy, to Raivo OTP and never looked back. Their sync system is great too.

They have a website too with more articles as well https://raivo-otp.com/

Hey! Looks like federation is working for you!

I was reading some others were having issues with setting up the email as well on the kbin matrix channel

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

I’ve tried that as well, but might have stopped the containers then started them. Might try having them run in and try the up again

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

I tried removing everything and stating over. Made sure NodeJS was also on v14 as well according to the website. Still no dice. Is there a way to exec the migration script otherwise?

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

I've been trying! I cant seem to get the docker image to start up for me. Might try on a fresh VM install and see if/what might change too. Then would have to redo that for the prod environment. There is a blog post on a minimal install to Fly.io as well with a slightly modified docker image: https://blog.omnivore.app/p/deploying-a-minimal-self-hosted-omnivore

Another thread on Mastodon I started and Omnivore says its possible but only know of about 10 folks selfhosting.

Is it anything to worry about or just ignore it?

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

On Ubuntu the install.sh script adds a line to the sources list and that’s why an apt update && apt upgrade works.

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/jellyfin.sources

cjerrington,
cjerrington avatar

Source is on codebergand issues have been submitted with ideas, to questions. Might be a little slow now since there’s a flood of people, but you could search for an open ticket or help with something too.
