Why do people hate on mobile games, call them "not real games" and mock them, when some mobile-exclusive games are the best games I've played?

The Infinity Blade or Minigore series, for example, or anything made by Illusion Labs. These games are genius and most consoles don’t even have a touch screen or utilise it well like some smartphone games do....

kick_out_the_jams,

For a long while mobile games were either beyond simple (like snake on the old indesctructible Nokia) or we’re pay to win money extractor gachas.

There was a period before the latter really came around that things were pretty interesting.

Then in-app purchases, subscriptions and micro transactions basically dialed up to 11 on mobile platforms.

I (early GenX) grew up with: it is an ugly conflict between two evil sides who do not hold back to kill. When agreements are reached, there is always one side who breaches the agreements. Periodic killing returns in a continuous cycle. At the end of every period the conflict hardens and borders are moved. I have not changed my opinion. I have not seen an eye opener in the past months. SNAFU: Situation Normal, All Fucked Up

Removed for Rule 1 and given a 4 day ban.
I'd have to see if their code of conduct covers the F word or something but it's not a ban that would sit right with me.

kick_out_the_jams,

They were held in "administrative detention" in a state run prison.

Detainee and prisoner are pretty standard terms for that context.

kick_out_the_jams,

Never mind the fact that Palestinians haven’t had an election in Gaza in almost 20 years

since Hamas took over

The number of House members opting against reelection in 2024 is not necessarily unusual — 49 tapped out in 2022 and 36 in 2020. But unlike past cycles, when the exiting lawmakers have tended to tilt heavily toward one party or the other, depending on the moment’s political winds, the current departures are coming from both parties in a cycle when control of the House is up for grabs.

kick_out_the_jams,

There's basically no comparison between the bloatware on Samsung and Pixel.
I felt most annoying prompts and notifications with the Pixel were solvable where Samsung is a constant battle.

And then the alarms don't seem to go off reliably.

kick_out_the_jams,

It seemed to be just a 5 second wait.

The weird part is that changing user agent to chrome seems to avoid it.

kick_out_the_jams,

If you want to turn off hibernation for good you can do so with an elevated prompt.

powercfg.exe /hibernate off

Otherwise you want to turn off fast start up, which should avoid the hibernation/shutdown you're talking about.

kick_out_the_jams,

The fast start up option actually should still be under power options, though not really intuitive or easy to find.
Look for the part that says "Choose what the power buttons do" and it should be there.

I tend to just turn hibernation all off because I don't really use it, and I'd typically rather have the space hiberfil.sys takes up.

kick_out_the_jams,

Further images released by the IDF from the surveillance cameras at Shifa show Hamas terrorists inside the hospital, and outside the rooms of the hostages, as well as stolen IDF vehicles brought to the medical center.

It wasn't a wounded person that was the problem.

kick_out_the_jams,

The protection of civilians is precisely the reason weapons and armed forces are usually kept far from ANY civilian infrastructure, especially hospitals.

Israel and Hamas reach tentative U.S.-brokered deal to pause conflict, free dozens of hostages (www.washingtonpost.com)

Israel, the United States and Hamas are close to an agreement to free dozens of women and children held hostage in Gaza, in exchange for the first sustained pause in conflict in Gaza, according to people familiar with its provisions.

kick_out_the_jams,

You could argue that, but wouldn't it also apply to your own comments?

kick_out_the_jams,

Headline could be misleading, but it was a ban on police and municipal employees not private citizens.

Tensions began when the Springfield Township Police Department incorporated the “thin blue line” flag into its official logo in 2021.

Springfield Township officials banned its employees from displaying the flag on township property in January, saying that the flag had become central to tensions between marginalized communities and law enforcement, and adding that it had been adopted by white nationalists since its introduction.

Springfield officers displayed variations of the flag on pins, clothing, bumper stickers, and other personal items — even on rubber replacement wedding rings, according to the lawsuit. They also displayed the flag at department events, which took place on township property.

kick_out_the_jams,

The provision explicitly bans insurrectionists from serving as US senators, representatives, and even presidential electors – but it does not say presidents. It says it covers “any office, civil or military, under the United States,” and Wallace ruled that this does not include the office of the presidency.

None of that means we shouldn't talk about the ruling

Louis Rossman/FUTO's YouTube app, GrayJay, now supports Sponsorblock... and shames you if you use it

Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....

kick_out_the_jams,

My understanding is that it literally can't be used in an open fashion since it critically requires a proprietary closed base.

Some source code is available but the entire thing is not open source.

kick_out_the_jams,

That's a better way to frame it.

The patch is 'about as open source as you can get' but the actual application is far from it.

kick_out_the_jams,

G-sync monitors have also given me issues on Linux (w/ either AMD or NVIDIA gpus)

GUI mode was fine but I still never got it to display the text mode boot up screens properly, which is fine, until it breaks and then it's really a problem.

kick_out_the_jams,

If somebody was to respond to your comment with "You have said the actual truth" would you not characterize that like an endorsement?

Suppose They Threw a Cage Match Between Fascism and Democracy and Nobody Cared (slate.com)

What if the media is actually covering the spectacle precisely because the stakes—casual brutality, violence, callousness, lawlessness, and the descent into anarchy—are perfectly visible, legible, and clear? It’s hard to read any other way the current threats by sitting senators who promise to beat up committee witnesses,...

Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year (9to5mac.com)

In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users....

kick_out_the_jams,

Apple relies too much on lock-in effect to actually offer that - instead of taking $5/month and having to develop and maintain such interoperability they'd really prefer you just get on their platform instead.

kick_out_the_jams, (edited )

It's not like many (any?) other games, not in the mainstream sphere anyway.
I made the mistake of trying to play with mouse and keyboard but once I got flying with a controller I was set.

kick_out_the_jams,

Cheung later clarified that he meant to say their “sad, miserable existence" instead of their “entire existence.”

kick_out_the_jams,

It's been asymmetric warfare for many years, but Israel usually just remained on the defensive.

kick_out_the_jams,

There's plenty of other options for cloud storage out there.

The issue, especially with Apple devices, is how cleanly they integrate into the device and people's existing habits.
