North Carolina's House has rejected the anti-mask bill! The bill will now go through a compromise process, which could include re-adding a health exemption.

More work needs to be done, but this shows that advocacy is making a difference. Keep going!

So there's always the debate between QWERTY and alphabetical keyboards, but everyone is missing the obvious way to solve this disagreement.

There's no reason the alphabet HAS to be in that order. It's arbitrary, and English would work almost completely the same if the alphabet was in a different order, you know?

So, let's just put the alphabet in QWERTY order!
It'd solve all our problems from Q to M.

Hmm, finding a vegetarian Indian dish to make for dinner from scratch (which doesn't require a lot of ingredients I don't have and time) is an interesting challenge 🤔

Thus, why Indian restaurants and grocery stores here with takeout counters are appealing, LOL.

nil,
@nil@fosstodon.org avatar

@ai6yr some ones I make (with different spice combos)

Kidney beans & onions
eggplant stuffed with crushed peanuts, tamarind,
tornla (sp?)
So many lentil dishes either just lentils or tomatoes, onion, rice etc.

But yeah if you're trying to make an Indian-American style dish they'll have a bunch of stuff

ai6yr,

@nil Thanks for the ideas!

Heads up to anyone using facebook or insta: you'll receive a notification about your data being used to train AIs. The opt out process is deliberately convoluted and you have to fill out a form to object. This is what I wrote in mine, and the objection was immediately registered as successful, so feel free to copy.

Masto reply bores, this is not a post on which to fart out your opinions about Meta or AI or whatever. So don't. I'm sharing helpful info for people who need it, not for you.

A friend of my parents gave them a whole box of pieces of glass for doing stained glass, and they don't want it, so I grabbed a few pieces and I am grinding them up in my rock tumbler to try an experiment for ceramics class.

The rock tumbler is pleasantly quiet when full of glass versus when it's full of rocks

@MLE_online That looks like a very nice tumbler! I have only had crappy tumblers which I apparently use wrong because they are both noisy and the motor stops working and smokes.

NEW, by me: The check-in computers at several hotels around the U.S. are running a consumer-grade spyware app called pcTattletale.

pcTattletale was seen stealthily and continually capturing screenshots of the hotel booking systems, which contained guest information and reservation details.

This was discovered because a security researcher found a flaw in the spyware is exposing these screenshots to the internet, not just the spyware's intended users.

@zackwhittaker Suddenly the seemingly ubiquitous very-well-informed scam calls following hotel bookings make even more sense.

gh0sti,
@gh0sti@mastodon.social avatar

@zackwhittaker I’ve seen people use those computers for so much personal stuff and the staff at those places don’t bother checking security on those machines. They really should setup a guest account system where once you log off everything is cleared for the next user. Nothing gets stored. You could basically just setup a chrome book browser.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Act at work. In addition to clean energy solutions being good for the planet, low-income and minority communities typically bear the brunt of everyone else’s pollution and also rely on public transportation the most.

A fleet of 60 new electric buses will soon traverse across Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn along routes in low-income and minority communities, MTA officials said Tuesday (May 14th):

A lot of people who spent the last 10 years telling us that respect for the flag was the most important thing in the world suddenly don’t want us to care about who flies what flags how, I notice.

andrew,

They failed to mention “the flag” demanding respect was in fact simply whatever one they chose to run up their pole.

That works literally and metaphorically.
