Sure. Google location tracking "bad" and Apple data harvesting "good", but it's pretty hack to see articles popping up about how poor Android trackers are compared to AirTags.
https://somegadgetguy.com/b/46Q

Ignoring the security nightmare AirTags were at launch, the assumed permissions Apple just takes for the Find My network, and the annoying (and scary looking) process Apple forces users through to OPT OUT of location tracking, it's shocking how well Google is doing only a couple weeks into this new finder network going live.

Every time I complain about people making and presenting their content in terrible ways just to get better traffic, I get some reply sticking up for them:

“Look, if they don’t write for machines, nobody will see their work!”

If their work is terrible because you wrote it for a machine, nobody needs to see their work.

A case brought by the DOJ was just denied a jury trial because Google cut a check for $2 million dollars.
Business practices that likely impacted business and consumers to the tune of billions in potential damages, a company that generates $60 Billion in revenue on search and ads every fiscal quarter, a judge looked at the DOJ brief and said:

"Yeah. $2 million ought to cover that. No need for a jury trial."

A hearing is set for July 21st for a dismissal.

Why so many people are mad at Adobe!

In case you don't follow this stuff, many people in the creator community are apparently very upset at , who has moved full steam into subscription cloud-based services with everything that implies.

It seems they recently asked users to accept some relatively minor changes in their terms of service, relating to content moderation, what content Adobe can view and use, legal requirements, etc.

I said these were minor changes and from what I've seen they seem to be that. But the problem is that this has attracted creators' attention to terms of service that most didn't read or understand fully before this, which is quite a nasty piece of work. Very typical of many cloud services today though. So the creator community is up in arms, with new YouTube videos on the topic seemingly popping up by the hour. An "explainer" that Adobe sent out to try calm things down appears to have just made things worse.

Talk about unforced errors. It's not just .

#AI #Search #Google #SearchEngines #SEO: "AI Overviews are just one of a slew of dramatic changes Google has made to its core product over the past two years. The company says its recent effort to revamp Search will usher in an exciting new era of technology and help solve many of the issues plaguing the web. But critics say the opposite may be true. As Google retools its algorithms and uses AI to transition from a search engine to a search and answer engine, some worry the result could be no less than an extinction-level event for the businesses that make much of your favourite content.

One thing is certain: Google's work is about to have a profound impact on what many of us see when we go online.

Over the last two years, updates meant to make Search more “helpful” devastated many website owners who say they follow Google’s best practices. (Source: Semrush) (Credit: BBC)

The changes came about because Google recognises the web has a problem. You've seen it yourself, if you've ever used a search engine. The Internet is dominated by a school of website building known as "search engine optimisation", or SEO, techniques that are meant to tune articles and web pages for better recognition from Google Search. Google even provides SEO tips, tools and advice for website owners. For millions of businesses that rely on the mechanisations of the Search machine, SEO can be an unavoidable game.

The trouble is SEO can be abused."
