Before they will let me publish a new release of XScreenSaver on the "Play" [sic] store, Google, the most rapacious privacy violator ever, insists that a screensaver have a privacy policy.

This is where you come in!

I'd like this policy to be a series of bullet points: "Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will not [Thing.] An endless, concise catalog of their sins.

I need both your snark AND a link supporting your snark. It's critical for the joke to land. Include both.

GO!!

NEW, by me: LendingTree has confirmed its QuoteWizard subsidiary had data stolen from cloud data giant Snowflake.

It's the latest company, after Ticketmaster, to confirm a data breach hosted by Snowflake.

Throughout the week, TechCrunch sent more than a dozen questions to Snowflake about the ongoing incident. Snowflake declined to answer our questions on at least six occasions.

These are some of the questions we asked Snowflake, and why we're asking them.

Obsidian is local, offline, and privacy-first, so we won't consider adding AI features until they can fit with the principles in our Manifesto.

In the meantime, there are dozens of awesome plugins that allow you to work with LLMs.

Every time I receive some bullshit "expert commentary" from a PR agency — and there's been no shortage this week — I die a little inside. And then I add the entire PR agency's domain to my Gmail block list and forget they ever existed.

If you're wondering how to set up your own blocklist, I posted this some months ago. https://mastodon.social/@zackwhittaker/111466170745335870

Microsoft does so much so well these days. But this Microsoft Recall product is like watching a grown man carefully placing his hand in a door jamb and then repeatedly slamming the door on it. Obviously stupid from conception.

*WEA/EAS is sent out via cell phone, so if the cell phone network is down, no one will get that message.

SCE: Test Alerts Coming ⚠️ Dear Neighbors, from June 4-7, we are testing our Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) notification system to confirm recent improvements.

Since we are testing all phases of PSPS notifications, we’ll need to send multiple test emails to a limited number of customers in high fire risk areas.

NOTE: No power will be shut off in connection with these tests.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
These tests are important for us to be able to improve customer communications during PSPS events.

Additional information can be found here: https://www.sce.com/wildfire/psps/pspstest #wildfires #grid #sce #psps

I am talking o a reporter about this in a couple hours: https://regina.ctvnews.ca/from-outer-space-sask-farmers-baffled-after-discovering-strange-wreckage-in-field-1.6880353

This is about an hour away from my farm, so this'll be a fun conversation, and yet another great opportunity to tell a lot of people about what a huge problem we have with unregulated commercialization of orbit. (Also I just redid my slides for my public talk next week, this is going in!)
