For this week, something special I somehow missed from 2023.

Canada's COPROLITH (what's in the water up there in Canada?) released this grody, crushing, disgusting self-titled demo last year. It starts with this wall of sound type riff and then it devolves into this midtempo riff, and goes back and forth.. THIS is the shit I LOVE. And then 6 tracks of this. 🤯

Rotted Life Records have some INCREDIBLE bands on their roster.

An interesting one for - sometimes as I'm watching TV, I use Shazam to take note of a song so I can find it later.

Isobel Waller-Bridge is a modern classical composer for TV and movies, and her cool song "Bloom" was in whatever I was watching. That led me to her whole 2015 EP, 'Music for Strings'.

I'm not a fan of your older regular classical type stuff. But THIS? THIS is damn good.

RIP Steve Albini, one of the greatest producers ('record engineers') to ever walk the planet. And of course his band, Shellac -- their new album 'To All Trains' comes out in 9 days, on May 17. RIP Steve.

As I work today I'm listening to the soundtrack from the 1982 Conan the Barbarian film that was composed by Basil Poledouris. Things are feeling fairly barbaric at the moment here in the Arizona desert

Since this week's #TuneTuesday theme is #MyGenerationMusic and I was born April 1980, I have to talk about TELEKON.

Gary Numan released Telekon, my favorite of his records, in 1980. It was the first vinyl I bought as a teen in the 90s. Hearing this intro track and the album that followed was mindblowing. Definitely listen to this whole record if you get a chance.

Here's "This Wreckage", the first song on Telekon, one of the best album opening tracks EVER:

Yesterday I ran across this incredible Maryland based death metal label Rotted Life Records. Fans of chunky, gross worm-infested cavernous sewer metal like @HailsandAles, @wendigo and I are will definitely wanna give their stuff a listen.

They have a couple new ones coming out later this month, too. Almost everything I've heard from them so far is 🔥

This week's #TuneTuesday theme is #MyGenerationMusic. I was born in April of 1980, and there were SEVERAL great albums that came out that year.

But my top choice for that year has to be DEVO.

Devo released their third record Freedom of Choice in May 1980 with the magical song (and my favorite song on the album) 'Gates of Steel' opening up its second side.

Back in the days of Twitter, @platformalist did Tweet Tweet Jam, a challenge where you would submit games coded with 500 characters or under.

Now I'm here, and he's still hosting it - this year is Tweet Tweet Jam 9, and you have 6 more days to submit your 500 character games:

Sometimes you run across something by accident on Bandcamp that's weird and wonderful. I'm fairly sure I was looking for another artist a couple days ago when this popped up, but I wishlisted it then because why not, and I just now had a full listen.

This is the 3 song EP 'Treasure Trove' by Baltimore's YOUR MOM from 2015. It only lasts a few minutes, but those few minutes are strange and beautiful, and now I'm curious to check out the rest of their back catalog.

For fans of The Avalanches, etc.

32 years ago today on May 5 1992, one of the greatest games of all time (and forever my favorite first person shooter), Wolfenstein 3D, was released. I wrote about it for the list of 20 video games I can't stop thinking about (https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about). I still play it regularly. Sometimes weekly. Killing digital Nazis is always fun and therapeutic.

You can play Wolfenstein 3D FREE in browser here: https://dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-3d) and you can also download it free and run it on your own machine via DOSBox. Wolf 3D is also on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2270/Wolfenstein_3D) for a few bucks, and on the Microsoft store (the port of the 360 version). Now if they'd only port it to Switch! 😂

Happy birthday, B.J. Blazkowicz. 🎂

Robots still can't outrun the fastest animals because millions of years of evolution + tissue and bone make for more agility, flexibility, etc. 🤯 Fascinating stuff https://www.sciencealert.com/theres-a-surprising-reason-why-robots-cant-outrun-the-fastest-animals

I'm never one to watch or care much about the Rock Hall but watching this old rerun of the 2013 one, and I never knew how much I needed to hear Harry Belafonte gush over Public Enemy and spit some of their lyrics

Kudos to @HailsandAles for including Italian band ZOLLE on his , to @kevin for listening to it/pointing it out ("it needs its own genre") - hadn't heard em, this album is WILD. It's magical, odd & definitely deserves a listen. For fans of Andrew WK, Ween, Church of the Cosmic Skull? 😂

Isobell Campbell's new album Bow to Love comes out later this month, and I LOVE this first single '4316'. I've been fairly obsessed with it since it came out a couple months ago. 😂 Pretty serious earworm. Kinda reminds me of Sheryl Crow or something (who I also dig).
