The thing that's been bothering me in the default Mastodon UI is that I see too much information that is not needed. It's noisy.

For example, favorites and boosts don't need to have my own avatar or the action bar (why would I boost or fav my own post based on someone else's fav action, it makes no sense) and so on. Too much clutter.

The point there is to see who has favorited your post NOW and that's it.

On the left you see the original Mastodon UI, on the right . Less is more.

Whenever I feel overloaded and anxious, I open . This doesn't have the same effect than the rest of the Internet. It's nice and peaceful here, yet it's alive. Just like the good neighbourhood should be.

Mastodon Bird UI 1.8.3 (stable) is now released! :neon_skull:

These changes are added to 2.0.0rc which has support for the upcoming Mastodon version 4.2.1 and 4.3.0 (alpha).

Changelog:

  • Add profile link icons for Nostr, Bluesky and Threads
  • Truncate too long links in the profile, like Nostr

I see rising amount of spam accounts on inactive servers. People should continue using and upkeeping their servers, otherwise they end up being hives for spammers. This is like a textbook case of how not to set up servers. You should not set up and forget. It's constant work.

It's been 30 years online for me next year as my first memories online are from 1995. Since 1998 when I created my first website I have been online daily. It feels like a lifetime, because it is a lifetime.

Despite all the enshittification going on, I still love the Internet.

When coming back from the algorithmic social medias I always feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing the fact that on the Fediverse boosts really matter, because they make the posts pop up naturally as there is no "For you" feed. It's actually fun to boost posts here, because you know YOU are the algorithm. It's more fun and meaningful that way.

I've been monitoring my Mastodon instance with BetterStack and set up new and more precise alerts lately. Got continously an alert like this:

proxy_buffer_size 4096 is not enough for cache key, it should be increased to at least 5120

I did not have proxy_buffers and related settings set up at all.
