Re. last repost of @skrishna :

I'm glad that switching to single-gyro pointing was not necessary until now; because the telescope did important observations of the impact and its aftermath through last year.

NASA just did its biggest test yet of how astronauts might operate on the lunar surface during Artemis III. I tagged along to the 'science backroom' in Houston to see how future Moonwalkers will do lunar geology.

Hi all! I'm still in a newsletter subscription push mode -- with the demise of the bird app, it's gotten really hard to get the word out about projects like this that don't have an internal algorithm to help people find it.

If you like , , , or just want to support a woman of color doing STEM stuff -- please subscribe! Ad Astra is a weekly newsletter that tells you what's going on in space science and spaceflight.

A few people have pointed out that it's worth mentioning that my newsletter is on Beehiiv, not on Substack.

I chose a service that doesn't platform hate speech, and the tradeoff was I gave up on the other service's internal algorithm and tools for helping people find your publication.

Hence why I'm doing this push. Beehiiv is GREAT, they have been really good to me, and I very much recommend their service.

We recently released version 2.1 of the Source Catalog!

In short, everything we observed that was released publicly prior to the end of 2021 has been reduced, processed, and made available for easy consumption. With over 400,000 individual sources and covering 730 square degrees, the CSC opens the X-ray sky to all astronomers -- even if you've never looked at an X-ray photon before.

Unprocessed photo, taken in southern Quebec. We were extremely fortunate that (a) my house was smack in the middle of the line of totality, and (b) the sky was perfectly clear throughout the event.

Now, with 9x bracketing, I have a mere 639 photos to evaluate, process and merge. But what an experience! Awesome, really.

🚨 BOOST CHALLENGE! 🚨Ok and . If I tell my Canadian Member of Parliament, Gord Johns, that he will get 2000 followers within one week of creating a Mastodon account, will you make that happen?

I want him to be able to say when he stands in the House and presents the petition for an official Fediverse server that he himself is the first Canadian MP to be on the Fediverse!

Boost for yes! I am going to show him this post! I'm counting on you, literally! 🔥 🙏 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 0️⃣ 0️⃣ 🙏

1/ After having tested it for some time, phanpy.social ( @phanpy ) is now my one and only client. The interface is sleek, and you can tell there's clear intentionality behind every single design choice.

First, look at how gorgeous nested replies look! I no longer struggle trying to decipher who's replying to what. And when you reach too many nested levels, a button gives you the choice to deploy them or not, to keep things clean.

I made a thing to help me find RSS feeds, and I really liked it. So I made it prettier so you can use it too, if RSS feeds are your thing.

As it turns out, in my corner of the fediverse there’s a ton of them…

VoxofGod,

@skrishna allow me to interject in this thread but if anyone wants to confabulate an event complete with any number of things, including Beethoven's 9th being sung (bass soloist and the soprano are filled), I'm looking for a spot that has good acoustics, hopefully with a view of the path of totality, to watch it moving toward us, that is somewhere in the square made where this totality crosses with the 2017 totality
