Americans LOVE buses! Airport shuttles, hotel shuttles, resort shuttles, tour buses, ski shuttles, beach shuttles!

They can't get enough of buses when they are

  • HIGH FREQUENCY
  • connect places they want to be, especially WALKABLE places!!

Let's add more buses and bus routes! More public transit means less cars and less traffic!

As I heard the Indy cars zipping around in circles on my father in law's TV, I remarked, "You know, people ride around at 200mph or more every day on bullet trains and planes, and nobody finds it exciting. It's mundane, like walking or sleeping. But do it recklessly in tiny little metal boxes, instead of safe big metal boxes, and people get excited. That's weird."

My comment didn't go down well.

When biking my son to school, there's a road with a pedestrian crossing that we use. Every time, the first 2-3 vehicles won't stop within 10 seconds of us pressing the button.

There are no visual obstructions, and I'm a tall dude wearing a bright orange helmet. Car culture teaches folks to be assholes.

I've had 3 very high-profile engineers at the org ask me to stay, or ask for the opportunity to convince me.

One of whom is responsible for putting me into this position in the first place.

Because of where this job has put my head space, I know I shouldn't even consider staying. Plus, it's almost always wrong to take a counter-offer, right?

I did grocery pickup. My regular picker came out looking overwhelmed. The store was crowded like a disaster was coming, he said, and they were out of everything, even staples like milk and cereal.
