Journaling

You can simply create an Apple Shortcut that opens a daily note in iA Writer. Double whammy when you also add your Daily Notes folder from Obsidian to iA Writer and point to it.

(There is a ‘get file’ iA Writer action for when you’re unsure what the path to your note is.)

My experiment with interstitial journaling on is going well. I don't do it every day, but when I do it's a very valuable resource for me to check to remind myself what I have done and where I am at with some projects. So yeah, I will probably make it a habit from now on, but on days where I am super busy and harried, it is nigh impossible to do it.

@purplepadma how lovely! Has the practice helped support your mental health too?

purplepadma,
@purplepadma@beige.party avatar

@liztai Not sure… it’s made me think through some identity issues, like although I identify as a member of the Mad community, I am not comfortable positioning myself as a Mad scholar, largely because my research is not Mad Studies. It’s been quite difficult to tease out

"Keepers of private notebooks are a different breed altogether, lonely and resistant rearrangers of things, anxious malcontents, children afflicted apparently at birth with some presentiment of loss."

Sounds about right.

Been using the app Daily Bean as my everyday mood tracker/micro blog, but I'm contemplating on eventually switching to the Midori 5-Year Diary. I like the idea of being able to look back on the same day of the previous years--all on the same page. Thinking of making the switch next year...

Is anyone using it? How's your experience? And is it really FP-friendly?

I've been seeing a lot of photography on here lately and it made me want to get my camera out. There's been a snowstorm here today though so no outdoor pics but here are today's journaling supplies.

I'm still skeptical about interstitial journaling, but I'm going to try it tomorrow.
Basically, you write your entries this way:

[Time stamp]: What I've just done and how I feel about it + what I'm doing next

And you do it throughout the day.
Honestly it feels like a lot of busywork, but I'm curious whether it makes me more focused and less prone to procrastinating.

Will be doing it in my Daily Notes in of course.

@kittylyst Is PARA the one TIago Forte came up with? I tried it but my brain rebelled and now I have my own crazy system haha. I plan to keep my interstitial journal in my daily log where I basically dump tasks, reflection journal and all.

synth,

Got some metallic and interference paint for xmas, just swatching them out.

They are really pretty so I hope I come up with some pretty ideas to effectively use them.

A test page where I swatched all my watercolors together. Text is in Esperanto, and it's a key to my bullet journal symbols.

A Quiz:

  1. How often do you write in a ?
  2. Do you use a physical journal, or an app, or both?
  3. What prompts do you usually use to write your entries?
  4. How often do you review old entries?

My answers:

  1. Every day, usually multiple times per day
  2. App: Diarium
  3. See image. I don't use them all every time, but they're the kinds of questions I answer.
  4. I look at "this day in past years" when I remember, only a few times per month.

My journal is also my personal to-do list. I use the checkmark emoji to mark stuff complete, and copy/paste unfinished tasks over to the next day. It's a manual process that I don't recommend for others, but it works for me. Since I'm in my journal several times per day, it forces me to keep looking at the list to at least acknowledge what needs doing.

Nice, that sounds like all good personal systems: something that you discovered because it works for you. And that’s a key part of a good system: seeing it often enough to trust it.
