Sync for Lemmy is happening (old.reddit.com)
Edit:...
Interesting difference from Reddit: Upvotes/Downvotes are not anonymous
Hey folks! Just realized something that makes Lemmy different from Reddit. Because of the federation, your votes are not technically anonymous on Lemmy. At least, I think....
OC Why did the #TwitterMigration fail? (blog.bloonface.com)
I’ve been using fediverse stuff (Mastodon and, most recently, Calckey – I’m just going to use “Mastodon” as shorthand here, purists can bite me) for over a year now, a…
Comparison of Lemmy Instances (github.com)
I created a repo on GitHub that has a table comparing all the known lemmy instances...
Can we please remember to talk about things on the fediverse besides the fediverse itself?
Having spent a lot of time on Mastodon... There are tons of people there talking about federated and self-hosted services, software freedom, censorship, encryption, tech regulation... A very narrow range of topics directly surrounding the fediverse get a lot of attention....
Which instances should be recommended on join-lemmy.org?
The instance list has a couple of recommended sites at the top. They are defined in this file and seperated by language. For most languages there is only one recommendation or none at all, so you can simply add yours by making a pull request....
Reminder to all: Be respectful when disagreeing.
Rule #2 is possibly our most important one:...
Spez's AMA is live, the shitshow begins (www.reddit.com)
From the CEO of Mastodon: What to know about Threads (blog.joinmastodon.org)
There’s been a lot of speculation around what Threads will be and what it means for Mastodon. We’ve put together some of the most common questions and our responses based on what was launched today.
OC With an new beginning come NEW USERNAMES
Did you ever wanna have a username but it was taken? Us early adopters to the fediverse can now freely choose nice, untaken usernames!...
Subscription models for an app that’s not hosting anything is just the dev wanting a constant revenue stream, no matter how they try to word it.
Subscription models only make sense for an app/service that have recurring costs. In the case of Lemmy apps, the instances are the ones with recurring hosting costs, not the apps....
Lemmy's version of Place is so much better than Reddit (lemmy.ml)
How much money does Lemmy.ml need to temporarily boost their servers?
With forewarning about a huge influx of users, you know Lemmy.ml will go down. Even if people go to https://join-lemmy.org/instances and disperse among the great instances there, the servers will go down....
That feeling when you're googling the answer to some technical question, and your own Lemmy post appears 4 results down. (lemmy.one)
Hopefully this kind of content is ok here. Up until recently, when I would be searching for some kind of technical info, the top (and best) results would usually all be Reddit posts. I was very pleasantly surprised to do that this time and find a Lemmy post instead!...
Imgur links suck
Most Fediverse software supports image uploads, so there's no reason to use Imgur for image hosting. Hell, even on my small single-user server (atomicpoet.org), image hosting is easy peasy. Not only is Imgur not needed, they're an annoyance for those of us who are used to seeing images natively on the Fediverse....
Lemmy (and the fediverse) and GDPR: a clusterfuck waiting to happen?
So, I’m kinda new to this Lemmy thingy and the fediverse. I like the fediverse from a technological standpoint. However, I think that, if we gain more and more traction, Lemmy (and by extend the entire fediverse) is a GDPR clusterfuck waiting to happen. With big and expensive repercussions…...
Lemmy.ml and beehaw.org getting hammered with traffic because of spez ama
Both were down for me before, they seem to be up right now but just made this account on Lemmy.blahaj.zone (Henry is the name of my actual blahaj lol). It's probably because of the traffic influx from reddit refugees from the absolutely disastrous spez ama (where he doubles down on everything and doesn't apologize at all)....

What is your favorite Mastodon client?
Hey everyone, super excited to be exploring the fediverse both here on kbin and elsewhere. Looking for a Mastodon client primarily for iOS, great to see the main app is open-source, but there seems to be quite a few options out there. Feel free to share non-iOS clients for others' benefit as well....
What could Lemmy.ml do to avoid becoming the next Reddit after a decade?
We all know about how Reddit closed-sourced back in 2017 and will be killing off third-party apps this July, what will Lemmy.ml do to avoid facing the same fate? Reddit started off like this (open, aiming for freedom) and it all went downhill from there.
What does Lemmy lack?
Just wanted to ask: what do you not like in Lemmy (Lemmy as communities, server and clients)?...
Time to ditch Twitter/X, what are you guys switching to?
He says X is for freedom of speech, and it is an everything app...
Got my first lemmy.ml ban
I’m kind of okay with this. It was a reasonable take – not a hot take or an incendiary comment or something. Mods using their power to shut down discussion – expected on that instance I guess ;)...
A growing number of instances are signing the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact
A growing number of instances (mainly of Mastodon so far) are signing an 'Anti-Meta Fedi Pact', pledging to block any instance owned by Meta in the fediverse....
