What time is the solar eclipse?

Xitter: Why are the woke people trying to stop you looking directly at the Sun? What is it that they're hiding from us? The Sun isn't millions of miles away, everyone knows that. It's safe to stare at the Sun. I do it all the time.

Mastodon: St Mary's University Burke-Gaffney Observatory will have solar telescopes set up in the football field and will have a limited supply of eclipse viewing glasses available between 3:30 PM and 5:45 PM.

Voilà.

Developer proposes new Halifax neighbourhood; plan includes 3,500 housing units

https://globalnews.ca/news/10380808/developer-proposes-new-high-density-neighbourhood-halifax/

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta Yep. It' all junk. From fast fashion to fast furniture to housing. Nothing is built for permanence. The last three shelving units I purchased are chromed steel because everything is particle board and unless you are storing inflated air pillows, won't last.

Rasta,
@Rasta@mstdn.ca avatar

@Snowshadow And most things are repair by replacement.
When we were newly married, about as poor as we are now, and bought our first home, and even a few dollars extra was a lot. Our Ironing Board broke, the cheap weld let go. The local garage was a do-anything-kinda-guy and said, bring it over here, and he got out the torch and put a bead around it. How much. Two dollars. Still not broken 40 years later

@WmShakesp3are It's those power poles! When they plant them, they don't let the roots go deep enough and when they fall over because the ground is so saturated with rain, the tree is unable to support them, and it comes down too.

💥 Must-read report from Tim Bousquet on Pierre Poilievre's latest campaign rally in .

"As spoke, I realized that he in fact needs lots of fact-checking.
The crowd seemed relatively healthy, relatively prosperous & to all outward appearances, has done them well, at least in comparison to most people in most places in the world.
So I wondered about their evident resentment and anger. Just how have they been wronged?"

https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca/morning-file/pierre-poilievres-fantasy-vision-for-the-future-offers-common-sense-solutions-unhinged-from-the-real-world/

@gemelliz Nice to see Poilievre called out for his bs and the CBC as well for its weak coverage of the Conservative party.

gemelliz,
@gemelliz@mstdn.ca avatar

🇨🇦 THIS IS VERY CONCERNING!

At his campaign rally in Halifax this weekend, Conservative leader, Pierre "came out swinging against 𝙖𝙡𝙡 vaccine mandates, which is about as irresponsible as any political leader could be, especially with the looming threat of a measles resurgence."

gemelliz,
@gemelliz@mstdn.ca avatar

Has anyone actually heard Conservative leader Pierre claim that after he's cancelled the carbon tax, Canadian consumers will see big box retailers, gas companies & grocery stores reduce their prices enough to result in significant savings?

Because that's what many of PP's rally attendees think is going to happen. 🤦 Some even think they'll be buying a house straightaway once he's elected.

gemelliz,
@gemelliz@mstdn.ca avatar

Today, Mr. started off his rally with a massive lie when he shouted out, "On April 1st your food is going up 23%."

Then he held up a St, Patricks Day beer and yelled “Every time someone says ‘axe the tax’ I’m going to have to take a sip”

gemelliz,
@gemelliz@mstdn.ca avatar

@Snowshadow Every day, at every "rally", sounds more & more like TFG.

Reminder that Jenni Byrne, the Loblaws lobbyist, is travelling with PP as his campaign manager.

The sheer spite of locking away park benches, all to just drive the homeless a couple of dozen metres south to provincial owned land, make them their problem.

City Council and Halifax Mayor Savage are cruel people who have fashioned a cruel city under their tenure.

I can tell you from personal experience how cold it gets in the wee hours trying to sleep rough. Minutes pass like hours, like they do when you're in a lot of pain.

Today's eviction day for the homeless in public spaces.

I was there the last time. I saw the police pepper spray innocent children passing by and hold hostages to force compliance. It was ugly and brutal and felt like a piece of the future.

The city unquestioningly would want that again except for all the negative publicity it created. Armed goons pepper spraying children was a bad look.

What I know is hitting down is the strategy of bad people, the ones nobody should ever trust.

I'm so much older now.

I don't have enough fight to take on all the stupid in the world any more.

They're just looking for trophies. Easy victories that mean nothing, like the oversize truck cuts off the pedestrian at the crosswalk so it can sit 2 seconds longer behind the cars at the red light.

I prefer real answers that work. That's why I don't support bullies.

If brutality was the answer, there would be no problems anywhere. No shortage of brutal about.

Anyone receive Bills?

Turn them over & find your 'Stormwater Tier Charge' and see if it matches the legend amounts on the left bottom.

IE: Driveway culvert charge $19 exactly no amount has .16 cents at the end. Times 100,000 customers, $16000 unexplained charges.

Looks like this:

Tier RATE
T1. $0
T2 $19
T3 $38
T4 $76
T5 $115

Driveway Culvert $19

All of these are even dollar amounts.
CHARGED $19.16? an extra .16 ea

CStamp,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta The government should be stepping in, or folk should consider a class action law suit. That just doesn't seem right. If you didn't sign up, they shouldn't be able to bill you.

Rasta,
@Rasta@mstdn.ca avatar

@CStamp Oh, it's been brought to courts by some already. We have a UARB (Utility regulators) that approves pricing. They might think $0.43 per 1000/liters is a fair price & approve the request. Tucked into the same package, might say, "we charge customers $100 per day for overdue accounts" & it's like they rubber stamp it? They approved a $12 charge for to get a paper print of your bill. I haven't had one in 6 months, I refused to pay $12 since I pay for a service that includes billing?

Rasta,
@Rasta@mstdn.ca avatar

I'm sure this would be expensive, but large commercial properties don't need to be downtown, they aren't critical to the core area, but housing is.

Howe retired in 2021 after a nearly 50-year career as a reporter and broadcaster.

I see, the audiobooks do have convenient functions. One can say your ability is high as you actively make use of them.

To be honest, I'm the type of person who gets lost even within 100 meters from home if I lose my concentration, so I still read paper books.

But I do use e-books for craft patterns and instructions. I print out the pages I need and take notes while referring to them. It's nice that with the times, ways of reading books have also diversified and become more convenient♪

Rasta,
@Rasta@mstdn.ca avatar

@capla If I could read (focus) on paper, I would do that too. I have far more eBooks than Audiobooks. But I don't read them
I tried to read some, in waiting rooms, where a little book at a time might work, but I would never return to the book.
