I've been busy and haven't been able to stick around, but I want to share w/ you something I'm working working on these days w/ the Ye'kuana people in #Venezuela (#ontology, #art, #weaving, #ecology, #savetheforests, #philosophy, relationship w/ non-humans, #carib-speaking #education). Probably will write something on my blog about it later, but in any case here I share with you some of the beautiful motifs of the Ye'kuana trays & their animal references.
The generic name of these trays is wája, many things could be said about them.They're a cultural element derived from a deep capacity for contemplation of non-human #Others. This is the pattern for kwekwe, the native name of Dendrobates leucomelas (I put below a photo I took), also called in Spanish arrowhead little #frog (“punta de flecha”), since it's used as an ingredient in the poison for hunting. Some alternative names may also be kawau, sinyawe and tubudu, which are other frogs.

My life partner Michael and I live on a 13 hectare farm in the foothills of the Andes (apx 1300mts), overlooking the Sur de Lago region and Lake Maracaibo. We are currently in the process of reforesting the majority of our property with #cacao, #coffee, and countless other productive #tropical trees. We also raise a variety of animals on the farm, including a small herd of dairy and beef cows, pigs, and a perennial flock of chickens. The US State Dept statement is sort of funny: "The United States welcomes the release today of all six wrongfully detained U.S. nationals from Venezuela — Joseph Cristella, Eyvin Hernandez, Jerrel Kenemore, Savoi Wright, and two individuals who wish to remain private — as well as the release of four additional U.S. nationals."
So they recognize that 4 of the US nationals were detained in a manner other than "wrongly"
Probably includes the guys who invaded the country
