Well, I interacted with that song and now I'm getting endless clips of asian kids doing high energy dances in my YouTube feed. I am not mad.

Update: I now have this song firmly lodged in my brain on endless repeat, as if it were not already hard enough to sit still in meetings.

Sad to hear that Hepcat singer Gregory Lee passed away recently. He certainly had a sweet and clear voice.

Didn't listen to a lot of Hepcat frankly, but I love the tracks "I Can't Wait" and "Riding the Region" that were on the Hellcat Records "Give 'Em The Boot" compilations, which I listened to constantly throughout high school. Nostalgic for me, and otherwise fantastic chill tunes in that classic ska/soul pocket for sure.

My wife and I are taking a trip to Jamaica later this month with friends, no kids! Recommend any Jamaican music to get us in the right headspace? I'm a Marley true believer but not as well-versed in other , so it doesn't have to be a deep cut.

(I do use Spotify if you know a good playlist. Yes, I also support artists via Bandcamp, vinyl, etc.)

Madness release their debut LP, “One Step Beyond”

Total classic. As I’ve said recently, I’m grateful for my mod friends who turned me onto bands like Madness, who in turn introduced me to the original Jamaican ska bands of the 60’s.

But it’s not all ska music and covers. There’s also some reggae, a bit of eastern european music, pop, and even a hint of classical music. Most songs are upbeat, but “Razor Blade Alley” is a dark, bleak tune. Overall, it’s an excellent debut.

I still love the powerful rendition of the title track. It’s also a cover (Prince Buster), but that sax is just 🔥 Turn it up for the nuttiest sound around!

An oldie (yes, -allied / qualifies) for , a song that describes how you're feeling at the moment.

This one is manic and paranoid and prone to outbursts and bizarrely joyous all while constantly threatening to collapse into a heap on the floor, something that describes me as I prepare for the beginning of a new semester more than I'd like.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

Woah it finally clicked with me after listening to skatune network that post 3rd wave is just emo played as ska songs.

skyfaller,
@skyfaller@jawns.club avatar

@Notactuallyfromphilly Could you give me some examples? I'm not familiar with any ska that sounds like emo to me.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller pretty much every song skatune covers was an emo song originally. a lot of we are the union and kill lincoln songs are pretty emo too. Same thing with a lot of jeff rosenstock projects, even tho that's more malaise and depression than emo. Even the mustard plugs new song "fall apart" is pretty emo under the hood emo
