If you're in Lancaster, but are not heading up to HighestPoint tonight, then you could do a lot worse than joining for some jazz-fusion grooves tonight, at Runner Duck Wine Room (King's St. Lancaster).

You can enjoy that sweet spot between soul and funk and jazz alongside some lovingly curated wine, and a great atmosphere.

If you around Lancaster tonight, why not join ProfDJ for a night of classic soul - from Motown to Northern Soul, from Stax to the Sound of Philadelphia & Chicago... every one's going to be a classic - and yes there's be Marvin & Aretha in the mix.

It'll be happening at Runner Duck Wine Room (King's St.) from around 8.30-midnight - great sounds, great wine, what's not to like?

if you were wondering why their is a serous morale issue in ....

it seems that the VC at University (my erstwhile academic home) has managed to secure a 6.7% pay uplift this year (at the same time staff pay rises were limited to 3%).

The managerial class is becoming more like its private sector equivalent, but then again this fits with the increasing marketisation of the university sector.

is back at Runner Duck Wine Room (King's St. ) on Friday night for an evening of music from the 1970s... its always a good one, not least as I can get all nostalgic for my teens.

There'll be TRex, Labelle, Ace, Mott the Hoople, David Bowie & loads of more sounds from a decade that produced so much iconic music that three & half hours hardly seems to be able to it justice.

If you fancy enjoying some great wine while soaking up sine classic music, this is the night for you!

If you're in on Friday night & like a bit of groovy why not pop down & join at the Stonewell Tap (Church St.).

Its always a great night with fab artisinal beers on tap & some fab music all played on vintage .

And if you're not sure you actually like jazz, let me try & convince you....

For those of us who live in or new , the derelict site of Frontierland (featured last year in The Bay) has been an eyesore & wasted opportunity on the seafront for years.

Three years ago Council bought the site & now, as the public consultation period ends, it looks like redevelopment might actually get under way.... to complement the new which is just the other side of the Midland Hotel.

Lets hope this works out (this time!)

@ChrisMayLA6 it is a miracle they're not sold it off for "luxury" flats like 96% of the rest of the country brown sites

No-one in & will be surprised that local MP David Morris voted to support the ... he always does what the PM tells him.

But next time you hear him say anything about breaking the law, you might remind him that he voted for a bill designed to do exactly that (sidestepping our commitments in ).

If you're planning you in advance, and live in the area, this year is (once again) hosting a NYE party at the Stonewell Tap (Church St.) - great artisan beers on tap & if previous years are a guide (they are!) well be having as ball bringing in 2024.

see you there!

Quite apart from concerns about the costing & planning for 's rail proposals (intended to replace aspects of ), for those of us living in & the surrounding areas, once again the large urban area of Lancaster-Morecambe is right in the middle of a blank area....

There's a strange blindness about Lancaster; we have a top 10 University, a major new visitor economy development (Eden North) & a large population yet somehow are always missing from plans!

@ChrisMayLA6 maybe they assume the Duchy is paying for your infrastructure with Bona Vacantia funds 😄

marjolica,

@JetlagJen @ChrisMayLA6 correction - what they seem to be proposing is an upgrade to the A75 road link from Gretna to Stranraer.
So save money on rail (HS2) and spend it on roads instead.
This is the only Scottish element of the 'what to do with the scrapping the HS2 northern leg savings' proposals.

Its sometimes difficult to decide how important things like this are buy I'll note that City Council has toped the Climate Emergency UK District Council scorecard ranking.

While there is work to be done, LCC is clearly doing a lot better than other District Councils in working towards the .

When national & global action on the is lacking then at least local action can do something (provided DC are not driven into bankruptcy).
