I'm kickstarting the audiobook for "The Internet Con: How To #SeizeTheMeansOfComputation," a #BigTech disassembly manual to disenshittify the web and bring back the old, good internet. It's a #DRMFree book, which means #Audible won't carry it, so this crowdfunder is essential. Back now to get the audio, Verso hardcover and ebook:

My next book is The Internet Con: How to Seize the Means of Computation: it's a #BigTech disassembly manual that explains how to disenshittify the web and bring back the old good internet. The hardcover comes from Verso on Sept 5, but the #audiobook comes from me - because Amazon refuses to sell my audio:
Amazon owns #Audible, the monopoly audiobook platform that controls >90% of the audio market. They require mandatory#DRM for every book sold, locking those books forever to Amazon's monopoly platform. If you break up with Amazon, you have to throw away your entire audiobook library.
Libro.fm is the DRM-free #audiobook alternative to #Audible, Amazon's #monopoly that locks every book you buy to Amazon forever. When you buy a book on Libro, they share some of the purchase price with your local bookstore (Libro is the best partner I have in selling my own DRM-free audiobooks!). As of today, Libro is even better, because it's available in five new territories and currencies: #Canada, the #UK, the #EU, #Australia and #NewZealand!
Libro.fm is officially international. Unlike Audible, they provide DRM free audio books for prices (including subscription) that are perfectly competitive. I knew I didn't want to continue using Audible, but Libro was North American access only until today.
If you want prove that disability access makes the world better for everyone, let’s look at #Audiobooks. Audiobooks were never made for non-disabled people, yet, non-disabled people even read exclusively through audio. Just remember that the next time you download a book from #Audible and the same goes for #AudioDescription. Audio description is actively used by truck drivers and more sighted people but again, none of these were made for you. You are experiencing benefits of our advocacy and hard work. Support Disabled people financially so they can continue to do their work. I guarantee your life will improve as a result. Audio description allows you to watch movies without looking at a screen. Audio description describes actions, scenes, and other visual aspects between natural pauses in dialogue. You can see a list of titles with AD and what service it is on, including DVD, at https://adp.acb.org/masterad.html
I was supposed to be on vacation, and while I didn't do any blogging for a month, that didn't mean that I stopped looking at my distraction rectangle and making a list of things I wanted to write about. Consequentially, the link backlog is massive, so it's time to declare bankruptcy with another #linkdump:
Though I like doing these crowdfunders, I do them because I have to. #Amazon's #Audible division, the monopolist that controls >90% of the #audiobook market, refuses to carry my work because it is DRM-free. When you buy a DRM-free audiobook, that means that you can play it on anyone's app, not just Amazon's.
10€ for one #Audible book a month FFS! 10€ a month for #Spotify. #Amazon may well be, against my better judgement, the best option. Let's send #Bezos in to space. Ground control to Amazon... Commencing countdown, have you put the sales on? Also, best #vpn shopping so as to join the criminal élément people ? #nordvpn ? I need to pay monthly though. Tips(y)? 🍺
My check comes in and what do I do? Start buying more books of course. Anyone got any suggestions? I love fantasy and sci-fi, and am into the LitRPG genre.

You can also set up an account on Libro.fm then go to libro.fm/gift to gift yourself (or others) instead of buying them at list price the vast majority of audio-books can be bought at $15 a piece w/ book credits. You do not have to subscribe to the book of a month to get them at $15. And you can start out getting just a two book credit bundle and use them when you want. Good way to get #drmfree book at a decent cost. #audiobooks #drm #audible alt.
@ShaulaEvans@grrrr_shark That is still happening? I don’t understand why people are using Audible like a library when they can get a non resident library card cheaper than an #Audible subscription.
@CoolBlenderKitten@audiobooks@ShaulaEvans Mainly a reply for others viewing this group. You can get non-resident library cards that are much cheaper than N #Audible Subscription. I would honestly recommend that than using Audible like a library. And, for others that are reading this group, check out #AudibleGate
#Bookstodon - Who are your favorite audiobook narrators? I listen to a lot of audiobooks. The narrator is so crucial to the experience.
I'm a fan of Nick Podehl. He's done a lot of narration, including some that were flat bad 😂 But also some like Name of the Wind, which he narrated absolutely beautifully. And thank goodness, because it is such beautiful prose.
I also like Travis Baldree. Suzy Jackson. Emily Woo Zeller.
PS If you have Audible credits leftover at the end of the month, why not treat yourself to one of my Premium Romance Audiobooks?
You can find links to all my books, as well as to my newsletter, tip jar, and wish list, on this links page, which is also always listed in my bio. 🙏 ❤️
Red Team Blues is my next novel, a #PostCyberpunk anti-finance finance #thriller; it's a major title for my publishers Tor Books and Head of Zeus, and it's swept the trade press with starred reviews all 'round. Despite all that, #Audible will not sell the #audiobook. In fact, Audible won't sell any of my audiobooks. Instead, I have to independently produce them and sell them through Kickstarter:
