If you support walkability and safe streets but only if zero drivers perceive themselves to be inconvenienced by the infrastructure, then you don't support walkability or safe streets.
alt text: crying feels guy meme: "I... have to drive around the block and pay to park here!?", the driver's tears flow into protected bike lanes across the bottom of the image with happy children and financially secure adults enjoying the wind in their hair and a livable city with plentiful #transit as they ride to errands and other short trips in the neighborhood on comfortable upright bikes, #eBikes and #cargoBikes. #BanCars#BikeTooter
@xtaran@bicripple the "Ordinary" was the bike with a large front wheel and fixed pedals, and then came the "safety bicycle" with the triangular frame. In any case, Extraordinary seems not to be a great or very correct term for the non-safety bicycles (also not a great term) so I'm no help. 🤷 I tend to just mention #cargoBikes or #adaptiveBikes as two kinds of atypical cycle that need to be considered in #BikeParking. At least that covers extra width or length consideration, sorry tallbikers.
“Study finds that once people use cargo bikes, they like their cars much less”
“Cargo bikes started as something you'd see in images from Europe—bakfiets loaded up with groceries or sometimes kids. Now they're getting more popular, and seemingly for good reason. A new study out of Germany suggests that once you let people try them, they tend to have a real impact on car use, and even car ownership.”
Q6. I'm excited by the idea of a full size frame with 20" wheels. any suggestions on how to find a minivelo?
i've been scrubbing craigs and ebay for the below keywords with little success. (In the continental US, budget is ~$500) i am not a small person, so folding bikes aren't an option.
I'm currently looking for the keywords: minivelo, orbea, katu, neutrino, biria, velorbis, tokyobike, bianchi merlo, hooligan, mini velo, moulton, tern, velorbis, porteur
#BikeNite A6 I don't expect you'll find a #Zigo on your local craigslist but it also has a stroller/trike attachment. The rack is my DIY add-on that uses the mounting clamp for the trike part. I do like the small wheels #CycleTruck#CargoBikes, wish this one wasn't a 3-speed with narrow dropouts that makes it hard to motorize.
Can everyone on #BikeTooter agree whether we're using the plural form or the singular form for hashtags? Or can Mastodon core give us a feature that enables smooshing hashtags together if one is the plural form of the other?
Just learned Bikes at Work makes trailers that attach to bikes, one of which is big enough it could carry an Urban Arrow if say, ours broke down on a ride somewhere and we needed to haul it home. That would be a lot easier than needing to immediately go rent a truck...
Anyone have one? Or know of other options I should consider? #BikeTooter#CargoBikes#UrbanArrow
Rolled past 100 miles on the cargo e-bike today. Stella and Eloise seemed to enjoy the new pet-friendly front basket quite a lot.
Eloise could power a small town if you could capture her vibrations during a car ride to the vet. Today there was only some minor shaking, and not for the whole ride. #DogsOfMastodon#BikeTooter#CargoBikes
Also I wouldn't take the e-assist option if you lose the IGH to a rear hub motor (is this shop doing that as a mod or is that factory?) Regen braking yeah but it seems like a tsdz2 + IGH would be okay for light use, especially on hills, maybe an enviolo.
