We're continuing to use @Mastodon on the new instance launched by the @EUCommission. Fostering European digital players is vital to our strategy for a stronger #DigitalEU 🐘
We plan on investing over €22 billion in innovative research on behalf of the EU between 2021 and 2027.
So, engage with us for the latest news on research and innovation as we implement #HorizonEU and other programmes!
We have introduced new whistleblower tools to help employees and other insiders report harmful practices of Very Large Online Platforms or Search Engines under the DSA and violations of obligations by gatekeepers under the DMA.
These tools are empowering whistleblowers to share relevant information anonymously, in any EU official language and format, from reports to data metrics and internal research.
More governmental organizations should have their own Mastodon instances. Their communication goals are too important to just leave in the hands of a few private citizens who may not even be beholden to them in any way. I say as an American, lots of Big Tech is USA-based. That presents some serious pros AND cons for a #DigitalEU
Today, we launched our new Mastodon instance. It will ensure a privacy-focused space to engage with and get the latest from our Commissioners, departments, and the official voices of the Commission.
We want to thank @Mastodon for stewarding us and helping us make this possible.
Fostering European digital players is vital to our strategy for a stronger #DigitalEU.
This is a unique opportunity to grow the community even more. Let's get there!

We've signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Japan on digital identities and trust services. This means simplified processes and improved efficiency in managing digital identities, boosting online commerce, and creating new business opportunities for both partners.
The EU and Japan also committed to further cooperation on AI, 5G, 6G, as well as semiconductors, HPC, and more.
⚛️ Advances in quantum computing are expected to make it easier for malicious actors to access sensitive data unless we advance our cryptography.
Today, we published a Recommendation on Post-Quantum Cryptography to help #EU countries ensure the security of our Union’s digital infrastructures and services.
By developing a consistent strategy, our Union will protect citizens, societies and the digital single market in the next digital era.
From 7 March, the designated gatekeepers – Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta, and Microsoft – must comply with all obligations in the Digital Markets Act.
These changes give you control of your:

AI has much to offer. Yet, we want to ensure it happens responsibly.
On top of the world-first #AI Act and cutting-edge supercomputers, we are taking action to boost innovation, including:
🔸 setting up AI Factories to support European start-ups and SMEs;
🔹 an AI Office to oversee the implementation and enforcement of the AI Act;
🔸 language data to boost #language model development.
R to @EU_Commission: The Data Act also includes safeguards against unlawful requests by third-country authorities to transfer or access non-personal data held in the EU.
This will ensure a more reliable and secure data-processing environment.

The entry into force of the Data Governance Act paves the way for a new European way of data governance in line with our values and fundamental #rights.
